Attached images preview permission

When clicking preview button in creating new / replying to thread, and then clicking the view attachment link in the preview section to see the attached image, I get the error "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action."

It's expected (and unfixable without quite a lot of work).

I don't get that error.
But when I try to Preview a post with an image I just attached (via paste) ... it doesn't show in the preview
