Are there enough add-on developers for XF now?

I am not really a prospect as I already own a license since a long time. My only gripe with XF has been the lack of custom add-on developers.

So what I want to know is whether the scene has improved now or is it still the same as before with no takers for even paid add-on requests?

I desperately need upgrades to one of my add-ons which I got done outside XF.com :)

Personally, I'm not looking at Quantity but rather Quality. What's the use to have a ton of products poorly coded, without the most basic server performance tests passed on? Not providing any reliable stats or performance tests with a product will definitely not make me gain confidence on the developer. A product might work on a very small forum, but without a proper analysis on a busy environment is not worth much to me.

This should be a standard requirement in all Xenforo Add-Ons. It will force the developers to educate themselves and also make the customers confident the product they are installing was properly evaluated and tested by a competent developer.

Another aspect I see making surface is the lack of OOP organization into Add-Ons. A developer releases several products and instead of creating a mini-framework structure that he can use in additional products, he repeats the same code in different variations. Certainly not the proper way to code. I think XenForo should have rigorous standards defined, followed at the letter by developers. Or else, a total code chaos will be generated when users install several Add-Ons. We are not dealing with procedural code anymore.

I think XenForo has become a victim of it's own success.

Normally a product like this would take several years to reach the level Xenforo has in a matter of months. It's during those development years that new software tends to accrue an add-on/widget developing community.

XenForo is doing well on that front (in relative terms) but it's not going to be able to compete for add-on development with existing forum softwares which have been building up their add-on communities for over a decade.

Respectfully, if you are referring to vBulletin.org... that is just funny. I think I can barely associate there one decent developer to each of my fingers... and the count would probably stop at 6, if not less. There are endless times I almost died of laughing when I looked at certain mods valued as "amazing" by users. They had no idea the "disaster" they just installed into their software. I will certainly NOT want to see this happening at Xenforo.

Personally, I would not allow the release of add-ons unless they meet certain standards. After all, it can only hurt the product reputation. Hopefully, with the new add-on interface Kier presented earlier to be implemented, there will be certain requirements added in order to submit an add-on, as well a validation system XenForo approved like. (performance tests, proper OOP code structure, etc.)

That would make an even more elitist environment and stop people who aren't very familiar with OOP code from releasing on XenForo.

Exactly, that will allow people to educate themselves. If someone is not capable to write proper code, maybe he/she should go buy some books and learn how to do it the right way? XenForo is not a testing playground... that is my personal opinion and I firmly believe in it.

It's only a question of time. The dev community of Xenforo is great. I little example: the advanced bridge wp-xf. Search on vb and ipb: there are not present any advanced bridge wp-xf (that uses comments on topic for replies, avatar integration of that). Only basic bridges. Just be patient and you will see every addon you want...
