It certainly won't hurt. I have APC set to do the PHP caching, and memcached for the back end stuff.

APC is far better than xCache.

Uses less resources and far less conflicts in my opinion

+1 APC is very good for that.

Depending of your server configuration and board size, you may have a significant performance improvement.
