Hiawatha is an open source webserver with a focus on security. I started Hiawatha in January 2002. Before that time, I had used several webservers, but I didn't like them. They had unlogical, almost cryptic configuration syntax and none of them gave me a good feeling about their security and robustness. So, I decided it was time to write my own webserver. I never thought that my webserver would become what it is today, but I enjoyed working on it and liked to have my own open source project. In the years that followed, Hiawatha became a fully functional webserver.

I never see someone use that server in production. Like, I never find a big site that said "Dude I'm using hiawatha webserver"

Yeah I see it. I know hiawata since 2012 when I write my Diploma. But I don't find any big site using it. Commercial site. A site that lots of people, general people, use it. Like youtube/reddit/blizzard/something

Even lighty had some. I know some big site using it, like youtube (I don't know youtube still use it or not). And a heard nothing for hiawata. Like cherooke, or G-Swan.

you won't find many commercial or large sites using Hiawatha as it lacks 2 key features, no on the fly gzip compression support and no SNI support - see my comments at https://community.centminmod.com/threads/another-great-web-server-hiawatha-webserver.1937/#post-9247 (also posted some benchmarks for slowhttptest / slowris with a tuned Centmin Mod Nginx in that thread to compare)
