Alter Ego Detector

Alter Ego Detector 1.7.8

I've set individual permissions but some reports are still getting through. Any suggestions?
Can you analyse permissions and make sure nothing is denying the relevant permission? Can you try adding the permission to a group rather than directly to the user and see if that fixes it?

I have set everything correctly. It doesn't work. When I asked on here the first time, I was told to edit individual permissions in addition to usergroup permissions.

I'll need to investigate then why it isn't working, as I haven't had this issue myself and this add-on is heavily used on my own sites.

@Xon, sincerely appreciate you taking on this addon and advancing it. I just installed it and got my first alert and noticed the Admin username is now tagged as having the same IP as the 2 ego's caught. Is this normal? I am the Admin and that is not my IP address.

The IP detection originally had too large a window, and triggers on a single over-lapping value. I don't recommend using it in it's current form.

Without seeing what the shared IP was, it is hard to tell since it could be the result of a server miss-configuration or someone accessing the admin account from that IP and those users legitimately also coming from that IP.

Simply put, you need to investigate more.

Feature suggestion:

Just like we can tick a checkbox to ignore or include banned users.... how about one for discouraged users? I'd like to not check against users who are "discouraged" by me, for being an alter ego.

What if my target user's are only 1 country and we have dynamic/shared IP.
Will it detect automatically user's with the same IP as duplicate account?

Then with that disabled, if the user use different browser it can't be detected right?
Correct, but most people will use the same browser. It mostly catches low hanging fruit, with the rest being basically impossible to detect to how easy it is for VPNs and such to be used.

Is there a way to have it automatically take an action based on what alterego matches? By that I mean, I have all alter egos go to user moderation/users awaiting approval. If the alter ego matches on a cookie, I want to reject the registration and notify the user with the message "Multiple forum accounts not permitted." Is there any way to do that?

You can choose for all detected alter-egos to go into the moderation queue, but you'll need to send the message yourself.

It would be nice to have an option where you press a button that sends a canned conversation message to all parties. It's a pain to click each user and type in the same message asking about the other account.

@XFuser you've left a 1 star review as a bug report less than 5 minutes after reporting a bug for a free add-on. IMO, this is an abuse of the review system.

This Add-on has a serious and urgent bug.

Please see this discussion with the Xenforo Developers:

https://xenforo.com/community/threa...ears-as-admin-ip-address.118884/#post-1084733

Please fix this serious bug urgently and confirm when it has been fixed so we can use this Add-on again.

Thank you.
What reporting method are you using?

I've discovered one of them is incorrectly setting the IP logging, but wished to confirm as there are two methods which could record an IP.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this urgent bug.

Our Alter Ego reports as "Create Thread". We recently also switched our XenForo to create Reports as Threads instead of using the Report Center.

Please confirm once this bug has been fixed. Thanks again.
