(Soft-)Deleting inappropriate posts in heated debates (think: patent battle between Apple and Samsung, AMD vs. Intel, ...) makes some users accuse us of censorship. We therefore currently move such posts to a special subforum such that they can still be viewed but are removed from the original thread. This procedure feels like a hack because it rips threads apart.

What do you think about a "Soft-delete, but keep public" option for posts? Such posts would be hidden by default. But the "Thread Status"-pane would contain an additional link "Show x hidden posts" to reveal them.

I think that this would be much better off as an add-on. If a post gets deleted, there's a reason for that. I don't understand why you'd delete a post, yet still want it to be viewable. Especially with 1.1 coming, you could simply slap a warning on a post, so that other members know that it's out of bounds.
