Since around Sunday, all gmail email addresses on my forum seem to be bouncing back aka failure notice email being sent to me each time. By now I've probably received 1000+ undelivered emails.

This is what the opening part of the email says:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at lvpsxx-xx-1xx-1xx.vps.domain.co.uk.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<example@gmail.com>:
1xx.1xx.xx.xx failed after I sent the message.

xx is where i've changed the IP address.

Is anyone else having this issue? How can I fix tis problem ASAP.

This is effecting new registrations as well, as confirmation emails are not being sent out.

Okay - so I'm finally trying to get this issue sorted.
Did you have to contact Google after setting up the various fixes?
If yes - can you share where to contact them?

Thanks!

J.
Nope, I didn't need to contact Google. Soon as I set up SPF and DKIM + Reverse DNS, the bounced emails stopped and everything since then is back to normal.

Sweet! And thanks for the quick response.
A couple other questions if I may please:
1. Are you using the Mandrill or any other smtp mail server?
2. Or are you using the default email transport method?
3. If you are using the default method - do you have -f parameter checked?

Thanks again ;)

1. Are you using the Mandrill or any other smtp mail server?
I've been trying Mandrill since November, and it's really good with a lot of potential. The only issue I've found with it, is that it slows down post replies where there are people subscribed via e-mail, as it's takes a small while longer to connect to their SMTP server than connecting locally.
I've since moved back to doing my own e-mail.
