Alerts in favicon

When new alerts or unread conversation messages are available, the site icon (shown in the browser title bar) will have a badge added to it, showing that there are items waiting to be viewed.

No badge but a number in bracket shown. Is there any setting for this to show a badge? Currently this is how it looks:

Go to settings > options > user alerts & scroll down

You will find this to edit the position of the alerts indecator:

Yes, I have the last option set. Count in title shows fine, but no indicator on icon
