If you go to Edit link for thread and choose thread sticky or open (if it was closed) no changes until refreshing page.
But if you select thread for moderation and do same changes, ajax refreshing do the job and thread is sticky/unclosed.
This is as expected. When you edit the thread, we don't refresh the page, though we do update the list item itself, so you'll see the new icons (and title/prefix).
Other systems will do a full redirect as they handle arbitrary actions.
