[AddonFlare] XF2 Ignore/Block Essentials

[AddonFlare] XF2 Ignore/Block Essentials [Paid] 1.1.1.1

No permission to buy ($29.97)
I have no idea, but I've already asked my credit card company to give me a credit for this purchase. Allowing someone to buy your add-on knowing that you have no plans to support it is nothing short of fraud.
Haven't heard anything out of this dev in more than two years, I think he may have left the physical world.

All addons by this developer are abandoned. Its listed as Unmaintained and not compatible with XF2.3

People should be in control of who they ignore.
That's just what it's called and how it functions but it is overall a "Block" which is a typical feature on most social media sites and is an extremely beneficial one for communities like the ones I operate.

If you google, you can see many forums still using it.

you could see if they have a 2.3 version

I'm using it on 2.3. I rely heavily upon it. If anyone would like to get a 2-way ignore add-on developed, then give me a shout and we can pool resources.

Or if we could convince one of the other addon developers to reach out and take this over to continue development in the future, I'd be on board with that also. We don't use it yet, but it's on my list of future addons. (I have more than enough to work on at the moment.)

Did you have to modify it at all for 2.3?

Yeah, I am trying to do something with it. I already tried to contact this dev about the award addon. Never heard anything from him or her. I will try again and see what I come up with. It does need to be worked on to get it working on 2.3. I don't have the older file for it, but I did some research and found it would need some help.

I know it doesn't apply here, but in some cases I can fix addons if there was a change in the template, for which I usually create a new template modification to supersede the original. (Then I disable the original.)

Anything that needs any additional development beyond template edits, however, is way beyond what I am capable of anymore.

Just glancing at the reviews for this addon, support seemed to end in the middle of 2022.

HFBoards is on Xenforo 2.3 - we're actually using Xenforo Cloud. I'm not sure what witchcraft was done to make the addon work, tho (I'm just a moderator at that site; I admin elsewhere).

I'm actually kind of amused to see us held up as a primary example of the mod's continued usage.

I think it would help if we knew exactly what wasn't working with the addon. If it's a template issue, that's easy to fix. But if errors are being logged, there's no way that many of us could troubleshoot. And, does it affect everyone? Apparently not, as @Viqsi's post shows that it still can work on 2.3.

I never bought this addon, so I can't help. But it's still on my short list of wanted addons.

And just my two cents...if an addon is unmaintained, I wish the staff would disable links to buy or download it. That infers the developer is still actively maintaining it, even if the prefix shows it is unmaintained. I realize it's not a perfect system, but I would consider it safer if the "Buy for $29.97" button would instead change to something like "Ask Developer" (or something similarly short as a call to action to reach out and inquire about it).

Especially when customers are having to resort to disputes to get refunds (and not always getting their money back). The fact that Ozzy got a ton of backlash for a period of non-communication, but this developer has actively not responded to any customers in almost 4 years now is crazy to me.

The imperfect system is generally fine, but when customers are actively losing money because this person shows no inclination to even respond during disputes is crazy.

The only thing I can think of is that the XF staff doesn't get involved in third-party transactions or issues, and may not want to tackle that as it can be a grey area. And that is understandable.

We do the same in our sale/trade area on one of the bigger forums. If buyer and seller have an issue, we are not responsible. However, if we start receiving multiple complaints about a seller, we do take steps to remove their listings and/or forum access until things are rectified. It happens very infrequently, but it does happen nonetheless. A seller can run into a bad run of luck and access removal might be temporary, but more often than not they've received money and are never heard from again. In which case their removal ends up being permanent as we never hear of a resolution.

A good solution for unmaintained resources might be:
  • Paid: Disconnecting the paid link button to the developer's site, changing it to a "Contact developer" button which redirects to the direct message system instead.
  • Free: Still allow a download, but with a popup warning that the addon is unmaintained and may not be compatible.
  • Make it clear in the site policy what happens to neglected addons.
Or to put this another way, I would feel as if I were helping commit fraud if I left up a paid link to a resource where I've had multiple reports of a developer taking money for an extended period and not responding.

Honestly, I just want the same criteria applied to this developer as was applied to Ozzy: https://xenforo.com/community/threads/have-you-seen.225934/post-1711201

I know of at least ~10 people who have had to pursue Paypal disputes or chargebacks, and that is probably not even remotely close to the actual number seeing as it has been years since the developer bothered to respond to anyone.
