Adding a second image to the header using CSS?

Was wondering if this possible using CSS (eg: extra.css) alone instead of modifying the header template directly.

What I would like to do is to add a second image to the header area on the right side above the user links ({name} / Inbox / Alerts / Log Out) so that the normal logo is on the left and then a second image is on the right side. Ideally I'd like to put it right on top of the nav bar so that it looks like it is standing on top of the navbar, maybe about a 1/2" from the right.

CSS will be the death of me. :X3:
