Aby Plans To Make It Free Sometime?

Since you are no longer updating, fixing, or otherwise with XenForo 1 why do you still require a license for it? If I bought a license to get XenForo 1 it would do me no good. You lot have made it clear you are no longer supporting XenForo 1. No fixes or anything. No help support either.

Also, I tried to buy a license for it. It wouldn't let me though. My brother let me use his credit cards. My brother is a Master Plumber with his own business. So his cards were good. We tried over, and over, and over, and over, and over using his two cards. ... It didn't work. Is there some type of lockout on my name preventing me from buying one? It wouldn't surprise me since everyone dislikes me so much.

And don't suggest I get XenForo 2. I hate XenForo 2 with the passion of a thousand firey suns. It's XenForo 1, or nothing, for me.

A XenForo license covers you to use any version released up until the point at which your license expires.

The only way to use XenForo 1 is to buy a XenForo license and if you choose to use an older version that no longer receives support or updates then that is your prerogative.

We do not process any payments ourselves so, no, from our side there is nothing that would stop you from purchasing a license.

It wasn’t clear whether you attempted to pay with PayPal or Stripe.

Whichever it is, you may want to contact them directly to find out why they couldn’t process your payment.

If you do not see the option to input your credit card information directly, you may want to contact us and we will enable it for your account.

Probably it is your name.
Your brother's name is different on the credit card.

I don't use Paypal and so paid via Stripe. Try that way and it should work fine.

Make sure all the details are his in payment (name, address card is registered to, etc), else the payment processor may consider the cards stolen and block them.

What don't you like about Xenforo v2.x as you can style it to look and function almost identically.

Besides Xenforo v1.x won't get upgraded for newer PHP versions and (from top of my head) the latest PHP version v1.5x supports is very close to (if not already) end of life.

Never heard of Stripe before. Also, on https://xenforo.com/purchase/checkout-cart?cart_id=, it only has an option to pay by paypal.

Also, what's up with the new look on the buying pages? It's a mess. The old one had the option to remove things from your cart. That is missing with this new one. How do I remove anything from it?

Bah. It's like the Hershy commercial said. "Change is bad."

So in https://xenforo.com/customers/ I have to make the "Personal details" (Email:, Address:, Phone:) match my brother's card? If I did that he'd get the account stuff email instead of me. I need that email.

What don't like about XenForo 2? Everything. I hate it!

We can enable direct credit card payments for you (bypassing PayPal) if you contact us here: https://xenforo.com/contact/

You can remove items from your cart, at least on certain pages. Can you be more specific?

Luckily the sheer majority of customers would disagree with you.

Why is there an emoticon in my previous message?
Because you wrote Phone:) and :) is a smilie.

To be honest, if you feel that strongly about our products, maybe you shouldn't bother being a customer in any capacity.

There are many different forum software providers available. Perhaps one of those and their up to date offerings will be more to your liking.

As Chris D said, contact them and they'll reply pretty quickly and enable Stripe payments for the card. If Paypal are blocking the card, you'll also have issues buying any add-ons and styles/themes, unless that company/author provides other payment methods.

It's possible that the card was rejected because Paypal have blacklisted him (or it's a business credit card).

Be more specific, because if it's the look you hate, you can style Xenforo to look COMPLETELY different from this forum if you really want. It's hugely flexible.

This forum for example is on a bog standard Xenforo installation, unstyled and straight out of the box. The demo they provide is the same.

Some examples of very different Xenforo looks:

I've seen XenForo styled anywhere from old school VB, to phpBB look, to modern and stylish.

To give you an idea of just how flexible things are:
a) With a single chat addon there are about 650 individual style choices.
b) With my test forums I have over 35 A4 pages of notes, just for the styling options.

My advice there: Start looking at styles from places like www.pixelexit.com, www.dohthemes.com, and www.themehouse.com. They will show you what's truly possible and open your eyes to just how you can change the look of Xenforo completely. One or two setttings can drastically change a forums look.

I'm running a test board at the moment (not publically accessible) with a modified style, and the look is completely different to what the original style is.

Forum choice: There really are only 2 I narrowed it down to when looking for feature sets: Xenforo and InvisionCommunity. I went with Xenforo because IC is way more expensive, and less flexible in key areas. Just remember the key thing about forums: It's not about YOU, it's about your guests.

If you like an old school design and your guests want something modern, they'll go elsewhere (making the forum pointless). That's where you can create multiple styles in Xenforo and allow people to change between them (other forum software will only allow a single theme).

I'd suggest know your audience and target market, and build your forum around that.

Making the choice: If you want assurance before you purchase, post up links to some forums you like, and some you'd like to have yours looking similar too. People can tell you possibly either what themes they are using, or how you can get that same look with Xenforo.

:)
