So, there is an answer to this question, but initially it is a ******* to the mind.


Three friends have a nice meal together, and the bill is $25

The three friends pay $10 each, which the waiter gives to the Cashier

The Cashier hands back $5 to the Waiter

But the Waiter can't split $5 three ways, so he gives the friends one dollar each and keeps 2 dollars as a tip.

They all paid $10 and got $1 back. $10-$1 = $9

There were three of them 3 X $9 = $27

If they paid $27 and the waiter kept $2: $27+$2=$29

Where did the other dollar go? $30 - $1 = $29

Now I am not math wiz but if they waiter gave them back a dollar and the time of day was 12:00pm, wouldn't that mean that the obvious answer would be to subtract the orange from the pear which would leave you with an elephant? Correct me if I am wrong though...

Total exchange: $27.00

Subtract $25.00 outstanding house balance

+ $2.00 remainder

Forward $2.00 remainder value to waitress service (fee)

Final debit $0.00 (house balance $25.00, waitress balance $2.00, friends balance $1.00 each of a total balance of $3.00; exchange total $30.00)
