5 Week vBulletin Customer

It's only been 5 weeks that I've been a vBulletin customer and I want a refund... I won't go on about the bugs, barely helpful support staff, or seemingly non-existance of any QA team. I'm here to find a better product. I'd like to learn what your product offers and how the features compare to those of the vB CMS Suite.

Cheers

If you wanted to stick with your purchase, I might suggest:
- ditch the CMS. It's terrible.
- go back to vB3 forums.
- add Wordpress as a "CMS Content", use the vB Wordpress Plugin for User integration.
- keep in mind, the main problem is that you are investing in the company that released vB4 - one of the worst software releases of all time. Forum software run by a Big Giant Corporate Conglomerate. Ouch.

If you can afford it:
(1) Get Xenforo for forums.

(2) What your CMS needs are ... would determine what you should do.

(2a) "All Xenforo + Addons":
XenPorta for home Page, XenMedio for videos, XenCarta for Documents / Wiki.

(2b) Xenforo for Forums, Wordpress for CMS.
Wordpress = Blog, Home Page, Some Content in Wordpress Pages. Apparently most Wordpress Addons work with
Xenforo Addons = xfrock's Wordpress Integration (user integration), XenPress: A wordpress theme that makes Wordpress look like Xenforo ... ALOT !

If you run through your CMS needs, myself and others could tell you what is available.

Welcome to XenForo. You can learn alot about what XF has to offer by reading the threads in the Have You Seen... forum.

I'm very sorry that the folks (Bob Brisco/IB) who purchased vBulletin ruined the entire brand and forum owners community we formerly had, not to mention the flagship software most of us depended on for years.

Welcome to a new day, we are all hoping for the best once the clouds clear.

I thought I did my research before buying into vB. I really liked the older versions of the software as a consumer. Now that I'm a customer and the product has gone downhill, I feel like a sucker. I'm a professional developer by profession, but I don't specialize in web development (although I'm learning quickly). I'm a multimedia specialist and I've worked some great gigs creating some excellent audio/video apps.

To answer your questions...

I originally was looking for just forum software, but the CMS idea enticed me as a way to make a more robust web site. I bought into vB to build a gaming website. I need a product that provides a solid forum and the ability to have CMS features where I can post categories of content (not vB categories...), such as Walkthroughs, Reviews, etc. I need to be able to post video, from as many sources as possible and have the video indexed. Pretty simple requirements at this point...

When I first registered my domain, I had a single HTML page with nothing but a single image. It was more of a placeholder than anything, didn't even have any metadata, etc. After a week or so I could type in my domain name and come up on page 5 of Google. After 3-4 weeks with the vB forum and CMS up, I can't be found in google at all!

I spent a lot of time researching my vB problems and I've learned about robots files and sitemaps and the complete lack of support in vB for these valuable features. Sure they say they support sitemaps, rofl... Not according to Google Webmaster Tools. And support for video sitemaps, not even on their whiteboards as far as I know. Sure, I'm a gamer at heart, but I'm not creating the site for no rea$on.

I need a tool designed and written by people that know what they are doing. I want a product by people that understand relational databases and how to make them work, along with the insight to create intuitive user interfaces that don't require a manual to use. I'm been so frustrated over the last few weeks struggling with vB that I'm exhausted. I'll get my wits back and be around to learn more. Thanks for the info and nice to meet y'all.

xf works. To me, and my members, far better than vb3.8... no there is no "CMS" but based on your other posts in this thread you might want to think about 'pages'. Stone cold simple & rock solid. Pages are not a cms, but they can be used in a myriad of ways.

Someone really needs to start a 'show us your pages' thread. I know several that are pretty awesome.

Bit of advice. Don't go back to vb3 it's now outdated and you simply don't deserve to use an old outdated product. As for the vb4 sorry to hear.

Xenforo doesn't have a cms right now but the modding community are now starting to develop the major add-ons (gallery) portal as already been made and I don't think it'll be too long before a cms akes an appearance by the modding community.

The product itself is simply breathtaking, easy to use and very intuitive. The styling system is the best system against any software so customising styles is a quick and easy process and updating them is even more of a painless free task.

I could go on and i think i will. Sleepless nights? A thing of the past. You'll not get that, no more endless worries of bugs restricting what you can do on your site because the devs ensure the bugs are fixed as soon as they are reported. The product is very stable and has been since i used it from beta1.

If you want a great product that is heading in the right direction and your not after bloat, bugs, sleepless nights, worrying till your hair turns grey and excellent support then xenforo is your solution.
