XF 2.1 405 error on registration

New install, when new user tries to register is given error:
"Oops! We ran into some problems.
Oops! We ran into some problems. Please try again later. More error details may be in the browser console."

In browser console there is this:

"Failed to load resource: index.php?register/register:1
the server responded with a status of 405 (Method Not Allowed)"




The registration still completed despite the error message. The verification email is still sent, and the new user becomes registered. But obviously I need to get rid of this error message.

That may suggest mod security is involved.

Contact your host and they should be able to resolve it.

Have you updated your PHP version? Older versions don't work so well with all the updates to 2.1. XF recommends that you update to 7.1.
