Eggy Messenger 1.1.5 significantly expands compatibility across the XenForo 2.3 branch.

The minimum requirement has been reduced from XenForo 2.3.12+ to XenForo 2.3.0+, making Messenger available to a much wider range of XenForo 2.3 installations. This release has been successfully tested on XenForo 2.3.3 Patch 2 as well as newer 2.3 releases.

Also included in 1.1.5:

• Message forwarding to private and group conversations
• Searchable forwarding picker with a compact five result display
• Realtime reaction updates without requiring a page refresh
• Microphone, camera and supported speaker selection
• Microphone testing and camera preview
• Improved missed, cancelled and completed call activity
• Native XenForo bell alerts for missed calls
• Call duration display and call back actions
• General Messenger reliability and compatibility improvements

Voice calling has been improved with updated WebRTC connection handling, ICE/STUN support and more reliable audio setup, allowing calls to establish properly with two way audio so both users can hear each other.

Messenger 1.1.4 also introduces dedicated outgoing call and incoming ringtone sounds. Default sounds are included, with both available to replace with custom audio uploads from the Messenger ACP.

Messenger 1.1.2 introduces a new Shared Media browser for conversations.

Users can now browse the complete history of shared images, files and voice notes instead of being limited to attachments found in the messages currently loaded on screen.

The browser separates content into Media, Files and Voice, loads items in manageable batches for larger conversations, and continues to respect conversation access, cleared history and deleted messages.

The existing recent media preview remains in place, with access to the full browser available directly from the conversation interface.
Messenger 1.1.1e is now available to download.

This update fixes an issue with voice and video calls when Messenger is using the AJAX fallback instead of the optional Node.js realtime gateway.

In some cases, the receiving side could show the call as connected while the caller remained stuck on “Calling”. The fallback call polling has now been corrected so both sides receive the proper call state.

The update also improves the handover to AJAX if the realtime connection is unavailable or drops during a call.

If you use Messenger voice or video calling, I recommend updating to 1.1.1e.

Eggy Messenger 1.1.1d is now available and is a mandatory update for all customers.

This release includes several important fixes around voice and video calling, permissions and Messenger interface behaviour.

The main change is that voice and video calling are now handled independently throughout Messenger. If either feature is disabled in the ACP, the related controls are now removed from the interface instead of remaining visible and producing an error when clicked.

User group permissions have also been corrected so voice and video permissions work independently. Disabling voice permission will no longer affect video permission, and vice versa.

During testing I also found and fixed an issue with the Messenger bootstrap data where XenForo could overwrite Messenger's own visitor permission data. This could cause voice and video controls to remain hidden even when the relevant ACP options and user permissions were enabled.

Call history has also been updated so it follows the available calling settings and permissions correctly.

The misleading invalid response (200) message that could appear when a disabled feature was triggered has also been corrected. Disabled features now return the appropriate Messenger response instead.

Changes in 1.1.1d include:
  • Fixed disabled voice and video controls remaining visible
  • Voice and video calling now work independently
  • Fixed separate voice and video user group permissions
  • Fixed call controls remaining hidden when enabled
  • Fixed Messenger visitor and permission bootstrap handling
  • Fixed Call History permission and availability handling
  • Fixed misleading invalid response 200 errors
  • Improved incoming call and signalling permission checks
Voice calls, video calls, Call History, ACP feature toggles and the different user group permission combinations have all been tested with this release.

All customers running 1.1.1c or earlier should update to 1.1.1d.
This is a small maintenance release focused primarily on installation compatibility.

A problem was reported affecting some first-time Messenger installations, where certain template characters could be rejected by the site's database configuration during the initial XenForo template import. Messenger 1.1.1c changes how those characters are stored so they continue to display normally while avoiding the installation error.

This release also includes corrected XenForo file hashes and updated installation/readme information.

Existing 1.1.1b customers: If Messenger is already installed and working correctly, there is no urgent requirement to upgrade. However, upgrading to 1.1.1c is recommended so you are on the latest maintenance build with the corrected package data and hashes.

As always, existing installations can upgrade normally without uninstalling Messenger first.
A new Bulk Messaging extension is now available for Messenger.

It adds bulk messaging tools on both the front end and back end, giving administrators and authorised staff more flexibility when contacting multiple users.

From the front end, permitted users can send bulk messages directly through the Messenger interface. On the back end, administrators also have access to bulk messaging controls for managing larger or more targeted sends.

The extension supports recipient targeting, permission-controlled access, and works directly with the existing Messenger conversation system.

This is an optional extension and requires Messenger to function.

Messenger 1.1.1b adds a new Bulk friendships tool in the Admin Control Panel.

You can now connect one member to all eligible members, or connect all eligible members with each other, without sending individual friend requests.

Friendships are created directly as accepted, so members do not need to approve anything and no friend request notifications are sent.

Existing friendships are left alone and blocked relationships are respected.

This is especially useful for private clubs, staff communities and smaller forums where members are already expected to know each other.

You can find the new tool under:

ACP → Messenger → Bulk friendships
