CloudLinux released AlmaLinux (https://almalinux.org/) as an answer to the end of CentOS

We're using CentOS 8 and MariaDB - it works flawlessly. We are looking into free alternatives with a clear upgrade path without full reinstall and right now Oracle Linux (Yes, Oracle :rolleyes:), Rocky Linux (still in early stages) and CloudLinux OS (paid but promised a free alternative in 2021 Q1).

This one that you linked has much more features than most of us need ("us" beeing the guys who used that feature in vB and migrated to xF). To me the "Social Groups" would be overkill, I just need a way a user could request to join a usergroup and that request could be (or not) moderated...

Almost there. The new mod misses the "joinable usergroup" feature: the user cannot join a (moderated) usergroup by his choice

I would like to bring this back. The old mod from Waindigo will not be remade to xF 2 so I think that's important. We know that there's a partial solution to these (https://xenforo.com/community/threads/using-custom-user-fields-with-user-group-promotions.92226/) but it's not the same as public...

Almost the same - I can't Moderate who can or cannot join the usergroup. Everyone with the right value in the custom field will automatically be in the usergroup, right?
