No obvious way to access "Your Account"

Due to the recent changes, there is now no obvious way to access "Your Account".

I know that all I have to do is hover over my username and click one of the options in the menu and it will take me to that part of my account.
However, new members and those less savvy might get confused by this.

Is it worth just putting a "Your Account" link at the top of the drop down menu, just underneath "Sign out" for example?

You're right, there is. I've always thought of that as my alerts page. :)

Yes, like Kier is saying I also thought before that 'settings' in not quite the correct phrase for this URL. Because it doesn't bring you to your settings... it brings you to Your Account, which encompasses more then just your settings...

See:

Your Account.webp

Yes it does. 'Alerts' instead might be much better.

Why? Alerts is just a part of the whole Your Account, it just happens to be the first option, thus why it is shown to you as you enter Your Account...

That is incorrect.

The page is actually "Your Alerts" as can be seen by that option in the left hand menu being highlighted.

As Kier said earlier, there is no "Your Account" page.

Aaargh ;). You know what I mean. Again: Your Alerts is part of the 'overall area' labeled as 'Your Account'. Better? :). Maybe it's a bit 'confusing' for some to go to http://xenforo.com/community/settings/ and then being presented immediately by Your Alerts. Since Your Account indeed does not have a page 'on its own'... meaning: the landing page is 'Your Alerts' instead of a page called 'Your Account'.

So, if that is your point, then maybe there should be a new landing page? But what to put in there? For me, it is perfectly fine as it is. The solution for me is still this:

Yes.

That page is actually "Your Alerts" as confirmed by that option being highlighted in light blue.
It is also available by clicking twice on Alerts on the main navbar.

If I'm not mistaken, the only reason you see Latest Alerts above all the other links in the left column is that it has been placed first. For example, if Your News Feed was placed first it would default to Your News Feeds.

Perhaps the best way to describe this page is My Account as it encompasses many items dealing with your account.

Agreed Grover.
"Your Account" is actually all of this:
account.webp

But the landing page just happens to be the "Your Alerts" page as there is no "Your Account" page.

I think that would depend entirely on how the url is defined within the main navbar which is linked to your username.

It may be hard coded in which case changing the order would make no difference and clicking your username will still open "Your Alerts".

I guess Mike or Kier will confirm.

Solution points

Wouldn't it be nice if the Navbar had a link "My Account" and clicking it would take you to:

http://xenforo.com/community/myaccount/

Now you are repeating my suggestion :) (more or less, because we do not need it in the Navbar) : http://xenforo.com/community/thread...46/page-3#post-38587

The only thing that is needed IMHO is that K&M:

  • Change the newly introduced 'Preferences' link (above Sign Out in the big YourUsername dropdown) into the phrase 'Your Account',
  • Let that link to http://xenforo.com/community/settings/ because the way it works now doesn't make it really useful. It links now to http://xenforo.com/community/settings/preferences and we already have such a link called 'Preferences' in the big YourUsername dropdown. So it is redunant and doesn't make much sense,
  • Further change the URL name from http://xenforo.com/community/settings/ to http://xenforo.com/community/youraccount/, because this URL doesn't bring you to the settings-section in 'Your Account'. It brings you to the overall area 'Your Account', which 'Your Alerts' happen to be the first option and thus that is displayed. And those are not your settings.

That is it. Everything solved :).

So you propose that your alerts should be available via 2 different URLs?
One being the URL which is encoded in the left hand menu for "Your Alerts" (e.g. http://xenforo.com/community/youralerts/) and the other being the main "your account" URL (e.g. http://xenforo.com/community/youraccount/) ?

That makes no sense to me.
