Tut. The word is 'quate' dear fella.

Quate appears to have a totally different meaning then quite. "Yes, quite" is a well used phrase; am I missing something the with the "quate" response?

I think it's a pronunciation thing. If an upper class person in England pronounces 'quite' in that fashion, the accent combined with the upper class twist means it sounds like 'quate'. It's definitely a quirk of England.
