[XI] Blog [Paid] [Deleted]

So yes, in general things are happening and I haven't abandoned anything. :)

I would like to have blog categories but nothing happens when I check that box in the ACP. When I check the box and then go to write a blog there is no category to select from and the post won't post but give me an error. Where exactly do I create the categories? I went to ACP/options/XIBlog and checked the category box.

And yes, the blog title does mess up for me too saying that the title is invalid, but it doesn't say why.

Go to the Applications tab and you will see an new section in the sidebar, 'Blog Categories.' From there you can manage the actual categories.

First level categories aren't currently selectable and won't be until the overhaul for the category system (which is still being planned). To create categories go to Applications -> Blog Categories and choose "Create New Category", or Display Category List if you wish an overview.

If a blog doesn't exist, you need to create one so the blog title and the entry title both need to be filled out.

Ah, I looked in the wrong place. Was searching for that in the Options area. Thank you. :-)

I'm having a challenge though. When I create a blog I have all these options available to me. As soon as I hit publish and then go back to edit, the options have disappeared. For example, I want to move blogs to another category, I can't do that anymore once the blog has been published. Can this be changed possibly in a future version?

Is it also possible to make a "sticky" box for the admin or upgraded members for posts or blogs to show up on top?

Okay, I'm still a bit wobbly here. I created several categories in the ACP and checked the "category needed" box. Then I tried to create a new blog and assign one of the new categories but it's not allowing me. It's only allowing me to attach it to the one current blog entry I made. Sorry, I'm still a bit confused with how to place blogs into each category or how to even create a new first level blog. It seems like I was able to create 1 blog entry but now all subsequent blogs need to go inside that one entry, not sure why it won't create a new stand-alone blog.

Blogs do not belong to categories, only entries do. This is so that you can have a wide array of subjects in any given blog.

Sticky blogs have been suggested, and I think they'll be added in a later version.

Is your user group permitted to have more than one blog per user?

In user group permissions I have set my permissions to all green. When I'm in com/blogs there is a blue box giving me the option to create a new blog entry. However, as I am filling out the new entry it wants to place it inside the one and only blog entry there (1st level). I am trying to create new 1st level blog categories based on topics so that people can add their own blogs within those categories.

1st level blog categories aren't currently used for storing blogs and only for organizing categories. This will change with the overhaul.

Ah, I think I figured out how to create new blogs. :) But the frustrating piece is that i can't post it. It keeps telling me that I must select a category. But there are no categories to select from, even though I created a bunch of categories in the ACP. (?) So I give it a new title "General Life" for example. And give the blog a description. It still won't allow me to post, keeps asking for a category.

Do you have a setup similar to what I have here? http://xenfluence.com/threads/category-management.115/

Just tested the "guest" permissions. The permissions for visitors (non-registered members) is set that they can "like" and rate the blog entries. When I log out and try to rate a blog post, however, it's not allowing me to rate the entry at all. Is this a bug?

Anyway we can add at the bottom somewhere that "you must be logged in to comment?"

I'm not sure what I'm looking at. :( It seems another person was having trouble seeing or figuring out how to assign a blog post to a category but then found it. I see the list of categories I selected to the right, but when I create a new blog entry, the categories are nowhere near to be selected or found.
Make sure you have a parent and sub-category. Top level categories aren't selectable.

I just threw this into the next beta. :)

Create a category, then create a new one. On that second category, select the first category you created in the 'Parent Category' drop-down menu and save. You can then select that child as a category for your entry.

It works in a similar fashion to categories and forums in terms of hierarchy. I'm aware of how confusing it is, and that will be changing completely later.

OMG, I'm surprised anyone could figure this out (no offense). Not intuitive at all. Basically, this means I have to create every category twice. Once as a parent category and then again as a selectable sub-category. And I still have to select which blog to add it to or create a new blog. I was thinking that I could create 10-15 categories and ALL blogs would be created within those 10-15 categories. All entries would be created within these blogs then. Like this:

Category (General Life)
- Blog Name (Sue's Blog)
- Individual blog post (How to practice self-care)

For example. :-) Okay, back to the drawing board.

Thank you for all your help!
