xF Pop-up Sucks...

I really do hate the pop-ups used in xenForo for sub-nodes and account. You mouseover by accident and it pops-open, but you have to click to close it. It's also seems slow and unstable. It's the only thing that I've come to not like about xF. I was fine with it at first, but now it seems irritating...

Why not just do it with HTML/CSS? It's cleaner, faster, and more stable.

You can see a sloppy example at my site(still under construction): http://inspireromance.com/

You can also see it here(even works in IE6): http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menus/multi-column.html

Finally, you can see how I used it as a facebook-like navbar at my xbox site here(inactive/non-xenforo): http://xboxnarc.com/

As you can see it is very flexible. Why not use this for xF instead of javascript?

I think its great the way it is. The problem with it closing automatically, instead of clicking is that sometimes it will close automatically when you don't want it to. Its a lot less frustrating to click to close the panel, than it is to have to go all the way back up to the panel to open it when you close it by accident.

As already mentioned it is horribly annoying and frustrating when a menu closes because your mouse moves unexpectedly or you don't notice that you've drifted off it whilst reading a long menu etc. I find clicking to close far more logical and intuitive and it doesn't really take any time at all. On the other hand it delays me much more to have to move my mouse back to the specific place that opens the rollover menu just because my mouse twitched or drifted etc.

Edit: Having said that it does depend on where this is being used. In somewhere like a navigation area I think click anywhere (off it) to close is far better as it closing accidentally is more annoying. However somewhere that doesn't impact your browsing as much (such as a help popup?) perhaps a rollover is more appropriate.
