XF 3 General Information & Discussion

It supports it now. But claims of “Major browsers supporting it for years” are definitely not entirely the case.
This is a minor thing, not worth a quibble.
I haven’t seen many uses of AVIF in the wild to be honest, but when I have seen them, I have more trouble with them on iOS then I ever do on desktop.
With a modest market share of 0.4 %, the format is still new. It is getting favorable attention; CDNs like Cloudflare are adopting it. I’ve converted a few WordPress sites to AVIF, and they run smoothly on both Windows desktops and iOS devices. We need to give the format a chance before it can take off. Otherwise, it’s a vicious circle.

Considering the style is the major feature in XF3, is it safe to say it's been designed using a full design system in something like Figma? And therefore this file may be available to us once it's released to more easily design 3rd party styles before committing to changing colours in the ACP?

It would be very nice to have a file like this to see the impact of what variables are used where and on what pages.

Have you had a look at something like @Russ site https://www.pixelexit.com yet because they take the existing site code and work into something special that fits the current code into it.
Because it might make it easier with the new editor to fit around the existing code.
Some of us already use his site to get styles to make it look cool.

This post will be updated as things progress but the most accurate date we have at the moment is some time in 2024, after 2.3 has been officially released.
2024 ended 7 months ago.

should update it to 2025 or more likely 2026 if the intention really is to update these posts.

Yeah stop whinging about it.
The problem is at your own end with your attitude.

Instead we have two major things that we're waiting on.
Where the hell is your patience?

current updates are slower than a glacier moving in an ice age.
i sold my license back to the person i bought it from.
one reason was the slow pace of how it is moving forward.
the other was because of users here.
i will start a site on another software than xenforo and would never recommend it to anyone.

Thought XF had a 1 transfer policy how did you sell it back? That's a 2nd transfer which isn't possible afaik

The license transfer rules were changed a long time ago - there is no limit on the number of transfers now.

Licenses are eligible to be transferred 90 days after purchase or since it was transferred, and must be active.

In RETROSPECT, this thread wasn't a good idea.
IIRC, at the time it started, 2.4 hadn't been decided. The editor change was going to be in 3.0. So 2.3 was supposed to be the final release of 2.x and 3.0 was going to be the next major release. Then things changed and they decided to do a 2.4 to split the editor change off from the other changes in 3.0. So at the time it was started, it was a reasonable idea given they were thinking 3.0 was going to be the next major release. The dates for this thread (Nov. 2023) and the 2.4 general discussion thread (10 months later, in Sept. 2024) bear this out.

I thought it was really weird when this thread started.

Encouraging discussion about a future version when a preceding version is just being talked about ?

They must have firm plans to forge ahead.

I disagree with you here.
These guys can plan all they like as far as i'm concerned.
It helps generate discussion for when things to arise.
