XF 2.3 feedback and comments

Hello,
I wrongly asked in xf 3 thread and my post was deleted. I want to ask why my logo in xf 2.3 is now using the small version, even on desktop its the same as in mobile version - small.

I don't understand how this can be related to 2.3

Presuming you haven't changed the style, have you checked that nothing has changed in Style Properties? ie compare the earlier version with 2.3 Style Properties > Basic Options Logo URL

Just tried to go from 2.1.2 to 2.3 by stepping up.
Got to the most recent version of 2.2 and the 2.3 jump resulted in this error:
Any suggestions?

In the latest XF 2.3 release candidates, I noticed a lot of new phrases that are related to conversations and direct messages.

For example:
conversation_starter "Conversation starter"
push_conversation_notifications "Push conversation notifications"

direct_message_starter "Direct message starter"
push_direct_message_notifications "Push direct message notifications"

What's the difference between conversations and direct messages. Or something new coming up?

Good question. It looks like they just replaced conversation with direct message but functionality seems hasn't changed.

Are conversations being rebranded?

Eh, might as well just say yes. But that’s all it is. “Conversations” has always been a somewhat confusing moniker. It was chosen, admittedly before the popularity of “direct messages” being used on other services/platforms. I think the original idea was they wanted to avoid “private messages” as it’s a bit of a misnomer given they aren’t necessarily private - you can invite others, you can have an admin who reads them via an add-on, they can be seen by moderators (partially) if messages are...

Yep, I noticed the renaming to Direct Messages. But at some point, I saw a bunch of new phrases related to conversations.
So it seems like a mix now. Or maybe there will be some kind of choice between 'Direct Message' and 'Conversation'?

Direct messages​

We have mentioned this elsewhere but we have taken the decision to rename "Conversations" to "Direct messages". This terminology is more familiar to most internet users and has a better acronym "DM". Over the years often people have still called them "PM" for personal message or "PC" for personal conversations and this can be confusing for those that aren't familiar with the software.

In XF 2.3, this is entirely a visual change. All code references, class names and templates are still the same. There are new canonical routes named direct-messages and...

Hm, I just upgrade from RC3 to RC4 and about 100 untranslated phrases related to 'conversation' popped up again.
I'm pretty sure all phrases were up-to-date on RC3.

So might be something wrong with versions?

I just upgraded and DM phrases seem OK, but then I only know of about two or three phrases that you see when opening DMs or on someone's profile.

RC4 id working nicely now re: the admin search and Xon's addons.

To keep my translations up-to-date I always search for new untranslated phrases like this:



With RC3, everything was translated.
After installing RC4, I got a bunch of these, although I'm pretty sure I translated those in the previous run:

2.3.0 officially released.

Now the pressure's on me! Probably will be a few weeks yet as I'm still waiting for some addons to be updated to work with 2.3.0, but the third party style is going to be released very shortly, probably before I can resume work next week.
