I think a renderCheckbox function should exist by default. It fits, considering there's a renderSelect and a renderRadio, and while you may not use it personally there are add-ons that will in the future.
It's better to have one core function (renderCheckbox) than multiple add-ons creating their own render checkbox function.
This suggestion mainly applies to XenForo_Option_NodeChooser and XenForo_Option_UserGroupChooser.
EDIT: It seems you'd need a verifyCheckbox function too - so add that
