There are various folks on this forum that can assist you with a managed migration. Check out https://xenforo.com/community/forums/third-party-services-offers.42/ for various folks offering services.I hope it is acceptable to add to this thread. I ended up here because I decided to search for alternative software to vBulletin. I never realized most of the old VB team had left and created this new (to me) software. I've spent the past 2 months trying to get a straight answer from the current VB team about upgrading from v.3.6.8 to the latest version without success. The person who originally bought the licence is no longer involved in the running of the site and doesn't know the CustomerID or the email address he used when making the purchase. I've tried to make a new account but never got a verification email (yes, spam and junk have been checked), tried emailing sales and support, filling in the relevant form, and even resorted to phoning them and the guy was at a total loss as to why my account hasn't been verified.
I don't have direct access to our host server, except the database through phpmyadmin, but have spoke to our host, and he's happy to work with us to get this resolved.
What I'd like to know first of all is would someone be willing to take the steps to upgrade from our old version of vBulletin to the latest version of Xenforo? It's possible our host could do it, but I'd rather someone who has already taken on an upgrade undertook the job.
Regards,
Paul Irwin

Hi, I am sure this question has been answered for old versions, but, what are the big "advantages" of Xenforo compared to vBulletin "6"?
Opinions, facts? especially regarding speed and SEO and I am talking about out of the box versions.

This is the number one reason i have not moved from vBulletin 6. to Xenforo. There are various folks on this forum that can assist you with a managed migration. Check out https://xenforo.com/community/forums/third-party-services-offers.42/ for various folks offering services.
Talk to @MySiteGuy he's very skilled and experienced. Best there is.This is the number one reason i have not moved from vBulletin 6. to Xenforo.
To move I am going to pay almost $400 for the license and add-ons to achieve the functions I use now and then have to spend yet more to pay a third party to facilitate the move because there is no intrinsic method for migration.
You can always ask @Slavik who is a mod on here as well if you're having troubles with all this. This is the number one reason i have not moved from vBulletin 6. to Xenforo.

I'm sure he's very good and as such i would not expect that he would offer his services for free. I'd actually have a concern that he was undervaluing himself if he did.Talk to @MySiteGuy he's very skilled and experienced. Best there is.
Something like thisI'm sure he's very good and as such i would not expect that he would offer his services for free. I'd actually have a concern that he was undervaluing himself if he did.
But that my point, after spending $400 just to license the software the necessity of further expenditure to actually make use of it prices it out of consideration.
I'm certain there are many out there like me, currently using recent versions of vB due to a long history of doing so but with no simple path to leave, who would move in a heartbeat if a 'factory' migration tool was available.
Tool also needs to be updated for Invision 5.I'm sure he's very good and as such i would not expect that he would offer his services for free. I'd actually have a concern that he was undervaluing himself if he did.

For me the interest is mainly that Xenforo seems to have better support, a more engaged user base which means a broader pool of experience and knowledge to draw from and from what I've been told is better coding.Tool also needs to be updated for Invision 5.
May I ask what features XF has that you prefer over vB?
Why would you want anything less? Nobody offers expert service for free. But he DOES offer educational ADVICE for free. I didn't say buy anything - I said TALK TO.i would not expect that he would offer his services for free.

My previous hosting company was owned by a friend who hosted numerous forums. He told me that the comparison of resources used between vBulletin and Xenforo was very noticeable in Xenforo's favor.
Honestly if I could anything I wanted it would be vBulletin 3.8.x eternally maintained. I really liked that version and it ran flawlessly for years.
XF has a factory migration tool... it has been mentioned multiple times in this thread. The third party services is for those who understand nothing about moving a site. Honestly, you can use chatgpt to help you move your site and be ready for import via the XF import addon, you don't need a third party or any further cost. You just need to move.who would move in a heartbeat if a 'factory' migration tool was available
I recently upgraded a forum from vb 3.x to Xenforo, and migrated the data across using one of the tools available on here. As a database and software developer, I know the prices for installation and data migration and what you'll get charged on here is very low, considering the development hours put in by the team. The CMS software I used to sell, install and migrate would easily cost upwards of 2k. For what you're getting here, it's a bargain - assuming you're willing to put a bit of work into it.I'm sure he's very good and as such i would not expect that he would offer his services for free. Yes, but it doesn't cover the vB 6 by default, which is the version that the OP is using.XF has a factory migration tool... it has been mentioned multiple times in this thread.

Apologies, didn't read the question properly. I can't answer that because when we tried to upgrade to vB 6, vBulletin support was next to useless. Xenforo is an excellent product thoughYes, but it doesn't cover the vB 6 by default, which is the version that the OP is using.
