Well, I'm SUPER impressed with this site and would love to imitate aspects of it for my site (different niche): http://www.livingreefs.com/

I love the style / theme! Any idea if this is a custom style or one that is available for purchase, and which one it is?

Also, they have an articles system that I'm really liking:

Anybody know what article system that is!?! It looks fantastic!!!

(Again, my site has zero to do with fish and is in a totally different niche)
 
Self-created style if I remember correctly. Also, if I'm not mistaken, that is just a clever use of the XF pages system...or it might possibly be done from this add-on.
 
I actually think it may be a clever use of template conditionals.

The archive page is just a forum node.

Chris, can you elaborate on this a bit please?

Also, you mentioned "archive page"... did you mean "articles page"?
 
Yes I did mean articles page, sorry.

Look at the URL. It's just a normal forum page.

And the articles listed are just forum pages as well.

It's just a clever use of CSS and HTML to make normal forums look like articles.

Sorry, I'm still very new to xF, but trying to understand. You're saying this is just a manually created "forum page" and each section links to a thread / topic list that was modified to display differently than a standard topic list? http://www.livingreefs.com/forums/reefkeeping-articles.141/

... and I don't see an "Articles" category or forum on the homepage list of forums... is it hidden? http://www.livingreefs.com/

My brain is about to explode.

And, yeah, that main articles page is hidden from the forum list. But the tab along the top has probably been added using the Nodes as Tabs add-on.

In some respects, Jaxel's "articles" are superior IMO .. because they allow for commenting.

The article is just a thread. The first Post is the Article and the second post and beyond is the commenting.

I got a note back from Ian & he basically said it's all super customized stuff that isn't out / available. :(

I'm really trying to find a good solution for our articles system. There are a few options out there already (XIblogs & Xenzine) but I'm not sure if they are what I need.

Ian suggested that I use the XF resource manager and tweak it. I do like the thought of trying to use something that is maintained by the same company that does the core, but I also don't love the thought of having to tweak the heck out of it to make is a good articles system.

I really just need something super simple... a free-form WYSIWYG editor for all my members to create article pages.

I've asked Xenforo to do that with Pages for 3 years.

I might have good news for you.
Tweaking the Resource Manager to be an Articles Manager has gotten easier.

There is a new Resource Manager option: rich text boxes. Rich text boxes get the full editor and support BB code as you'd expect. This will generally be combined with placing the field in it's own tab. For example, you could create a "FAQ" field that's a rich text box and put it into its own tab.

The Rich Text Box might be the "a free-form WYSIWYG editor" you want.

Things to verify:
(1) can a (rich text box)-based page be the default page ?
(2) can other (default) RM parts easily be omitted ?
(3) can Resource Manager items be created from the front end (I assume they can).


@RobCom - why not try a XenPorta-based Articles system like Jaxel's ?

Thats not customized, thats STOCK XenPorta. Its the index page for the category system.

Can you explain this further? How do you get to (or create) the index page for the category system?
