XF 2.0 What's the best way to set up forum email?

...as to make sure that I get as few as possible blocked instances sent from the board and do not get sent to spam folders?

I have the standard mail option selected but curious about if smtp is better. I also read something that it's better to use an email that's from the domain you're sending from.

Any other tips?

I found SMTP to be way better. I have tried most of them, ended up with Postmark. There is a small charge, but deliverability is way better than any of the so-called "free" providers such as mailgun, wher you are always playing whackamole with blacklisted IPs.

One day I'd get blacklisted, they would deal with it and change the IP but because it was free it took time before they saw the ticket and repsonded. Same with Sendgrid free. So unless you want to pay > £80 a month for dedicated IP, I'd go with something like Postmark who give good reputation for a very small price.

I use Amazon SES with incredible delivery rates. It's a tad expensive after the freebies, but, I would prefer 100% delivery and a solid bounce-back to remove emails prior to getting spam flagged.

So far, so good.

Bounce rate of 0.27% (well below the recommended 5% and even farther behind on the 10% that can pause sending) and a complaint rate of 0.04% (below 0.1% and 0.5% for a pause, which I don't get as opt-out is clear [maybe I'll find the template and make the unsubscribe link larger])... averaged over the last 606 days.
