What music do you listen to while working/coding?

Yeah I know, but most people who don't have ADD don't usually know the meaning, so I prefer just to explain it rather then using terms that would require them to look it up.
That's very true. I find it difficult to explain my ADD to people that don't have it and don't know it. Thankfully my missus is very understanding about it, but it still gets on her nerves sometimes lol.
I can recommend at least one website for information about/on ADD if you fancy having a look :)

Personally I find Music is very helpful with my ADD and helping me concentrate but during school I was never allowed to listen to it, which caused me to get no higher than a D for my GCSEs. Forsaken, that 'ability' is called Hyperfocus which, I believe, is exclusive to people who suffer from AD(H)D, and/or ASD. I personally feel privileged to have it :D
My son has a very powerful ability to hyperfocus. He's blessed with both Asperger Syndrome and ADHD.

I don't really need it, but if you could give me it for my stepmom, who basically hounds my younger brother about how he'll ignore everything else when he's allowed to play his Nintendo DS, that would be helpful.

I actually learned to deal with my ADD/OCD when I was young (About 9-10), and really don't have many issues unless I'm at the point where my concentration cracks (Lack of sleep, forgetting to eat etc).

I also have both! :O I was diagnosed back in junior school, when I was about 7 or 8 and I'm now 21. It's been difficult because the only other person I knew back that also had ADD is my father and he wasn't really able to give me much advice about it.

I can definitely give you the link for it, and that link is [http://www.adders.org/info.htm] which me and my missus have found to be very informative if you have the time to go through everything :)

I truly envy you. I've never been able to work out how to deal with my ADD, and it does effect my day-to-day life, i.e. lack of sleep, forgetting to eat, forgetting appointments, etc.

My son was diagnosed when he was 6, in kindergarten. He's almost 11 now.
I was diagnosed with ADD and OCD only about 5 yrs ago. I'm almost 51.

Life is...... interesting. ;)

Is he able to perform well in school? :)

Haha, my Dad was diagnosed when he was in his 30s :D and due it being classed hereditary I got tested as well and found to suffer from it also. I can well imagine it has been :) lol Are you able to cope with it okay?

He does well now, but it's been a very long road to get here. He's diagnosed with ADHD (and mannn does he ever get H if we miss his meds!), Asperger Syndrome, OCD, sensory processing disorder, and severe anxiety disorder. He's been through 4 psychiatrists and loads of meds. We finally found a psychiatrist who knows what he's doing, and he has him on meds that are doing wonders for him. I'm very pleased.

Yep I'm ok. I'm on meds for panic/anxiety disorder which also treat the ADD and OCD. However, the Post-It Notes people owe me stock in their company. I practically keep them in business.

I think we've taken this thread waaaaaaayyyyyyyy off topic, lol.
Feel free to start another one for us if you'd like.

That's good then :D I've never had any medication for my ADD or Aspergers. There are some 'abilities' of my ADD that I'm very proud of, like my Hyperfocus and ability to form conclusions in my head faster than most people. I'm also able to read people's emotions and, if I've known them long enough, their thoughts. I say read it's actually more of an 'educated' guess which is normally spot on. I have, and I believe still do, suffer from depression but I've never let it get too much for me.

Rofl, I'd forget to write on the Post-It notes xD I've had numerous people tell me to write down appointments so that I remember them, but they never think that I might need to be reminded to write down the appointments in the first place lol

My son has the same abilities. The meds just help him keep a clear mind, and avoid the wild mood swings and stuff that come with the anxiety disorder.

I don't forget appointments, and my problem from sleep comes from clinical insomnia (According to the doctors I deal with, I have one of the worst documented cases). I get hospitalized several times a year due to not being able to sleep for long periods of time, or lacking large amounts of sleep (I average maybe 4-5 hours sleep for a week if I'm lucky).

Forgetting to eat is mostly because I don't pay attention to it, and I just don't get hungry, and usually have to force myself to eat something.

I had a huge problem finding a decent psychiatrist when I was younger; my school basically coerced my parents to either get me into therapy (As well as putting me into special ed classes), or they would remove me from the school district and force me to do home schooling, which wasn't an option due to my family being busy.

The first one I had put me on a lot of meds, and spent more time sucking up to my dad, and talking down to my mom (She was against putting me on meds, as my dad had been on large dosages of Ritalin in high school, and she saw how he was basically like mindless), and paid little attention to me.

The second one just put me on meds, and if there were still problems said I was skipping them.

The last one I had was actually an old therapist from my elementary school who I had gotten along with, and she worked out most of my problems and helped me by figuring out methods for dealing with them. A lot of dealing with it consisted of taking up martial arts, being physically active during my free time, and finding things that'll keep me focused, as well as noticing when I start to misbehave, and how to deal with any issues that came up.

Because of also having OCD, and I have anxiety disorder (I can't stand to be late to anything, I usually come an hour early, and I've never missed an appointment for anything), I spent most of middle school and high school seeing her till she retired. I still talk to her sometimes now, and she's been seeing my brother as a favor to me, because he's about as bad as I was when I was younger.

Oh, and just to clear it up, I have ADHD, but the H part doesn't bother me as much due to being able to control it now.

I was thinking about that; "How messed up are you!"

Usually it's diagnosed when it is becoming noticeable, or a noticeable problem.

Waaaaaay off-topic, lol. :p

I have the ability to hyperfocus as well, although usually it's a lot easier with designing/coding than reading (usually I'm reading material for school that I'm not really thrilled about). When reading if I'm not that interested/involved I'll often read over the same sentence/paragraph twice (or more) as if I missed something. Thus I read quite slowly most of the time. :p I've been tested for AD(H)D and was not diagnosed. :)

I also listen to pop music, techno, a variety of stuff. Depends on what I'm in the mood for. :)

What techno?

I'm ripping a lot of my library to flac, and then packing those up in case I need them. Good trance/techno in flac format = bliss.

I usually code when I'm listening to hardstyle/trance/etc. Things of that nature.
Don't know why, but it seems to help me think.
