What is happening to AdminExtra?

This forum is my last hope! :(

You can go to XenAdmins.com for XenForo-related stuff. It's still a small, close, community.
+1 and you don't get all the usual arguments over which software is better like the other admin forums - we know it's XenForo which means the discussions are all pretty much on topic. Call me old fashioned but when I'm looking for advice, I like to find it ;)
Yeah, but I hear that's a vicious crowd over there. :p
There's this one guy, who likes to go by the name of "The King". Stay away from him... Seriously. :cautious:

I have to agree...

I'd rather go to a site that has useful information about XF than any others that are talking about the myriad of software solutions offered. I've already made my decision on what I want to use, so there is no need for me to see any other topics about the others. All the research in the world still leads you to one solution anyway. The rest are just stop gaps until the usual migration over to here.

All paths lead to XenForo..- the Tao of XenAdmins :D

Competition is good. It helps you figure out how to innovate. The problem is right now, there's nothing that can take on XF in any meaningful way. Talking about competition is good - it gives you ideas.

Gives me a headache. The same arguments have been going around over the various softwares for years. There comes a point where you get bored of hearing it :)

When the competition is completely and utterly inferior, then it does nothing. All it does is create arguments, and factions.

I know my faction, XF. I know where I will be when this place closes down 100 years from now... working on some idea using XF as a base. I'm comfortable with this software, the users, everything. I don't need input about other software, I'm simply not interested.

Consider, what would your position have been back in the vB 3.x days before XF came along? Were you a hardcore vB fan then?

Echo chambers are lovely if you want to hear the echoes. Fortunately not all of the admin forums totally drink the kool-aid yet.

Don't get me wrong, XF is *very* good at what it does. The problem is, some of the things the others are doing, are done better - in some ways. Assuming that what you have is the best and that everything else is inferior is a dark path that leads you to presuming that you can't improve upon what you have. Besides, when you're the best, where's the incentive to try any harder?

The fact XF had to fight is WHY it's so good. The problem is when you're at the top, there's only one place you can go...

I used vB.. and yes I loved it.

But I think you're missing the point of what we're saying. Right now, I'm not interested in reading about other software. I'm happy with XenForo. If I start to become unhappy with XenForo, I will research the other software again. What I won't do is frequent sites where all that goes on is idiotic incessant and repetitive bickering over the same old rubbish that gets rehashed every five minutes. I'll make an educated decision based upon the software itself, and proper reviews not 20-page threads of "You suck".. "no you suck" idiocy :D

To that end, I don't want to frequent forums that discuss software other than the one I'm using because I don't want to have to try and wade through irrelevant information to find the thing I want to know - and so I use a forum that focuses solely on XF.

Errrrrm. I was around. I never liked it. Simple as that, my kool-aid cup is empty now. It never interested me in the least bit. Is that hard to just accept?

As for as the incentive to try harder? For me personally, its simple... I'm hungry. Desire. Self-motivation. I can't speak for others though.

Is it so hard to accept? Not really, but it is surprising because you struck me as someone that once they get an idea into their head, there's no shifting it. I got the distinct impression you've been one of the flag waving vB fans back in the day. With a lot of people, the name on the flag changes but to them what they're using is the best thing ever and nothing else matters.

The other thing about inspiration is that you do not get it from inside a closed room. It absolutely relies on exploration. If you're in a room full of people all with broadly the same experiences, you tend to find yourself agreeing with things a bit too much - and potentially short on ways to push the envelope. That's why, as much as I might or might not like the various software out there, I keep looking around. Bits of this, bits of that. Grabbing inspiration from all kinds of places.

You can get inspiration from all sorts of things - for me bickering isn't one of them, that just kills the enjoyment of it.
