XF 2.1 What happens to vB attachments after upgrade to XF?

I am running into issues with the size of backups, mostly related to attachment data.

In vB 3.8.1, my attachments were stored in /vbforums/forum_attachments

During the upgrade, I was asked to provide this location. Does that mean XF still uses the files in that location, or did XF duplicate those files and move them somewhere else, like say /forums/data/attachments ?

Would it be safe to delete the old vB directory?

if you verified they imported correctly...you could perhaps zip them up if you are not fully sure..

What is the /forums/data/attachments/ directory for? I have 208 sequentially numbered directories in there and they are all full of image files.

Are these duplicates or is one thumbnails and the other full size?

well that question im not sure haha.....but i know that it copies them in there somehow and does not simply reference the old file locations....you could do a simple test if you like to temporarily rename the /forum_attachments directory and the images should still load

data/ has thumbnails, internal_data/ has the raw attachments (including non-image files).

Yes, if you're sure you're not going to use it again (XF won't use it).
