XF 2.2 What happens to plugins when I upgrade?

I have version 2.2, and I want to upgrade it. From what I understand, I have to purchase the upgrade, then perform a one-click upgrade from the dashboard.
What happens to all the hundred plugins I have that are not yet updated to 2.3? Do I need to remove them before upgrading? After all, if I upgrade the forum when they are not yet upgraded, they can disrupt the site, right?
I would be happy to explain how to do this correctly.

2. In addition, I understand that before upgrading I have to make a backup of my forum. I have no problem backing up the database, it is done every day. But should I also back up the attached files? That is over 200 GB of material.

I cannot stress enough that you should test all of this on a development/test copy of your site. Or, absent a test upgrade, make a complete image/backup of your database & your forum folder. Once you upgrade, there's no revert or go back button... it would be a restore from backup to go back.

That’s a great guide, upgrade to 2.3 was a bit stressful re: addons, but they should mostly be compatible by now, but they don’t always show that on the overview.

You don’t purchase the upgrade per se, you extend your licence if it has expired. The latest upgrades then become available to download in your customer area or via one click in your ACP.
