What advice would you give to a community owner/leader wanting to give up?

By its very nature, a forum is made to have users who register and participate actively! If a forum has no users and many posts, it is a dead forum! I, who opened my first forum (still online) 20 years ago, know what an active forum means!
Then if there are admins who are content to have forums with 4/5 new threads a week and are convinced they have a good active forum, I am happy for them, they are just deluding themselves!
Since for you the number of posts and users is not important for a forum, why have you disabled the display of posts and members in yours? Perhaps to avoid showing that it is not very active? Why do people tend not to register and not participate in a forum that is not very active?
Bro, go sniff some grass. There’s no point in writing a whole column.

The clever guy said that in his forum he hid the number of posts and threads and users 😅
Yeah because of people like you that insist things must always be growing ever faster, ever larger ever faster, and if not they're DEAD. Never mind things like seasonal fluctuations, or niche specific ups and downs.

And that some niches just aren't as big as others. Nor do they need to be.

You’re so fixated and obsessed by statistics. Instead of arguing, fix your dead forums mate, spend your time wisely.
I'm not obsessive... simply a forum is based on user content.. so numbers are important...
It makes me laugh at the hypocrisy of people who first say that numbers are not important but then to avoid showing that their forum is not active, they create post and thread numbers...

Ok, tomorrow I'll open my own social network, when I get 5 subscribers I'll start saying that my social network is important and we shouldn't consider that I only have 5 subscribers...

Ok boomer, my forum opened a week ago. Now what’s your excuse? 😂

Aside from the fact that your forum was opened in May and not a week ago, don't try to change the subject anyway!
You claim that the number of posts and members is not important but then you hide it in your forum!
You provide your theme to those who want to use it but it shows the number of posts but in your forum you don't show them...
In the end I'm the one who has more active forums than you but I'm the only one who is objective and understands That an active site and more...

Congrats on having more active forums! Maybe you can give us some tips on how to become the overlords of forums. Let's all take our advice from you, all hail the mighty admin who knows it all.

I don't hide posts or members intentionally for your reason, it's just not important for me. But hey we like to keep things mysterious. Who doesn’t love a good mystery? Next, we might just reveal that we’re actually run by a group of highly intellectual cats.

in every place you always and only invent an excuse! A forum by its nature must have active users who write many posts every day! Otherwise it is a project that is not very active/dead!
I am the first to be fond of forums so much so that I have managed 2 for many years but I do not pretend and I do not delude myself that they are active sites because most people have moved to social since the concept of the forum is old and this is contributed by the fact that forums have remained stuck 20 years ago!

On the other hand, with your five users registered in two months, you are an expert in managing large communities...
of these five registered users only three users have written Posts and one of these three is a BOT that has written via RSS (I think) 175 treads out of 274 treads.

Can you not understand that people use forums differently than your one use case?!
Obviously he only cares about his opinion. His lack of respect is ridiculous. If he wouldn't be so ignorant, most replies would be a lot different.

Just because our approach differs from yours @Ricsca doesn’t make it invalid.
Active users and daily posts are great, but they aren’t the sole indicators of a forum’s value or success. Some users prefer quality over quantity, finding value in thoughtful discussions rather than a high volume of posts.

It’s also worth noting that forums, like any platform, evolve. What worked 20 years ago might not be the same as today, and that’s perfectly okay. Everyone’s experience and preferences are different.

Adapt or be gone.
