vBulletin pirate sites hit by hackers

People just love to think they are taking the moral high ground.

Format-shifting, the process of moving music from a CD to a portable device and changing the format to a usable format for devices, such as an iPod, MP3 Player or Phone, is actually illegal.

Now if someone says that they have never moved music onto a portable device (before the days of iTunes) then they are simply a liar, as well as being a hypocrite.

Everyone is a pirate at heart :)
Painting with a broad brush is hardly ever a wise thing to do. Are you really trying to make a connection between that scenario and being a blatant thief? I really would love to hear the "justifications" for running a warez site...I've always been interested in how the mind of a criminal works.

Of XenForo or your add-ons? No one has taken me up on my amnesty offer yet

My addons

Wooah lemme get this straight. They bought your addons, gave them away then got their money back?

Yup, didn't really want to try and contest it after all the stories of people getting their paypal accounts disabled etc.

Thankfully I can at least cut off their stream of future updates so that's at least one extra sale before it gets updated on warez sites again

Hi John, I'll reply to this post, as well as the original that was posted :)

I'm not making any justifications, of course you cannot justify sites that rack up millions in 'damage' through distributing pirated goods, I am merely stating that people shouldn't judge others when they are not "as straight as a die" themselves. I don't think that there is any difference in someone that downloads a pirated script and someone that downloads a pirated MP3, and I guarantee that some of those 'calling pirates out' will themselves have committed acts of piracy, whether they admit to it or not really does not bother me, it's their own morality they have to live with.

As for any association, I'm just an open minded person willing to debate and discuss :)

How do you plan on taking action on an infinite number of PayPal accounts? I'd imagine that these people, buying your scripts and then asking for a refund, are not idiots, and it doesn't take much to create a new PayPal and verify it.

Wowzers. Have you looked into anything other than paypal? Something like ccbill or something. You know... the stuff porn sites use.

I've taken steps to ensure only completely non-suspicious payments get automatic delivery, with everything else being manual. For me it's usually easy enough to tell from the email address (gibberish) and country of origin

Plus the whole chargeback thing has only happened once out of about 4-5 warez releases - most just buy it legitimately for themselves and hand it over to a warez site.

I wish more people here would accept any paypal alternative. I'm not picky (really).

I've had a few members kindly purchase things on my behalf, but that often leaves me to be "slaved" to that member ... ie... They get the updates and if things go bad (banning for example) .... I'm cut off.

The support and rate of development you deploy with your add-ons is worth more than the add-on. Senseless really stealing add-ons but then I just think they steal free stuff so I assume they would probably steal the clothes of their relatives back if they could get away with it.

Paypal is very reasonable and fair. At least that is my personal experience with them. Not so long ago, someone purchased a subscription at my forum and then after downloading all my mods filed a charge back. I contested it immediately by letting know the paypal the whole situation and after hearing both sides of the story paypal gave me the right and closed the dispute in my favour.

What I wanted to say is that you are in your right. Don''t let them get away with something like that but fight for your right.

Cross checking information would be a good start, looks like that is what you've started to do.

:ROFLMAO:
So you are also trying to depict pirates as moral and heart less people?

Don''t let them get away with something like that but fight for your right.

I paid for a paid subscription on a site and he never upgraded my account. I asked for my money back and he told me to contest it on paypal and he would grant it.

Well he never did anything... at all period so paypal gave me my money back about a month and a half later. So I can say they are fair from a consumer point-of-view.

Your experience is not typical. I wish it was and I'm glad for you.

But I have known people who have submitted proof, including logs, emails, and messages....
