I'm in no rush Chris, I can wait it out, and Kier's postings today are encouraging, but I highly doubt that I'm not the only one on the fence. Doesn't matter anyways since my site is down and we can't get xen to reinstall.

Why can't you reinstall? Are you experiencing errors?

Some Zingers from the vB forums ...

The vB4 Suite Alpha is already here, vB5 Chaos Gold Beta 100 coming soon...

All manpower is on vB5. The teams are working hard to create a heart, a lung, etc for the newborn with defects. vB4 development is suspended.

vb5 is clearly an early alpha. I mean like I would never call this beta 13. Look at the html and css validation.

There are lots of stupid simple html mistakes which makes wonder why supposedly experienced developers would make such mistakes. [view]

The CSS is way worse with 630 mistakes in all.
Should we all not be coding to 100% html and css validation ?

I think the theories behind vB5 are good. But as we all know ... ideas are cheap, implementation is everything.
And vB5 is a disastrous implementation.

vb5.0.0 Beta 14
this version is really a big improvement compare to the previous releases, I have to give them credit for that..
In some ways, yeah... But it's going to be interesting to see how many sites upgrade and then after the fact realize functionality they *need* to function is missing (paid subscriptions and the entire infraction system most notably).

I seem to recall a lot of bashing from the vBulletin camp on missing functionality on this amazing product (XF)... I might be wrong of course...

The difference is that XenForo never had Feature X to start with. No one usually expects a software update to completely dump a core feature like that.

When you start out very low it's not hard to raise the bar. It's ridiculous that this is called beta, and seriously 14? Why so many? Just work on it a while until you got something worth showing, but no... It's obvious that the thing was bad from the start but was rushed out for sales. They do not respect the normal software development procedures. This a a perfect example of bad management, and I seriously don't understand how people still have any trust left in this company and its products. If it was the track record of a smartphone company they would already be out of business.

Exactly. IB are not newbies, they're supposed to be the most elite and reliable professionals in this process. We see a semi-competent "beta" release, and that makes IB praise-worthy? REALLY?

The simple fact is that if you have VB4 (or 3) right now, VB5 does not offer any greater ease of transition than any other forum. There is no 'upgrade', VB5 is a completely different software. If VB4 users had a natural path of transition and upgrade, then I could see a basis for hope, but for a VB4 user VB5 is a new, completely different product. You should be watching it dispassionately, forget there is a VB in the front. Switching to VB5 will result in a complete revamp of your forum, re-arrangement of all your nodes, complete restructuring of the database schema, and God-knows what else.

It is an alien product, so if you judge it dispassionately like another IPB release, getting some new IPB version which "finally", "barely" works I don't think would be a cause for celebration.

Something to do with MYQLI when installing. Step 9/12 fails everytime. Our server admin suspects that our server backups have corrupted as well. I'm thinking 70K+ threads and posts gone. A lot of hard work.

I might end up on VB now anyways. We can't get xen to install again. We're in a political season and we're a downed political community. Every hour down hurts us badly.

A tad stressed imo.

@digitalpoint
vb5connect should be call iB5connect because it has nothing to do with vB :D
All kidding aside, I posted elsewhere that I think IB could have avoided some headaches if they had called it "VB Connect" instead of "VB5 Connect" and treated it as a completely new product instead of positioning it as an upgrade to the existing vBulletin product line.
