XF 1.5 Users getting an alert each time users post

Several of my users (maybe many more?) are saying that everytime UserX or UserY posts, they get an alert notification for the post. They say it cannot be due to Watched Forums or Watched Threads, because the alert occurs when UserX or UserY posts, regardless of the forum or thread s/he posts in.

If UserX posts in a thread I get a notification for each time he posts.

I'm not following him, and I get an alert every time he posts too. That doesn't happen with anyone else
User3 said:
I just ignore multiple notifications now

Just to throw my 2c in, I have this problem too. I'm also not following UserX.

Thoughts/pointers appreciated on where to investigate.

Which add-ons do you have installed?

The easiest way to identify the add-on responsible would be by disabling them all and re-enabling them one at a time until the problem reappears.

How can Uncle Greg create 12 different touches in the system within a roughly 90 second period to generate all of those alerts? I would assume there aren't 12 separate replies by Uncle Greg in that one single thread, as that would seem nearly impossible to pull off. In chat yes, but not thread replies.

Could he be creating one reply, then going back through "Edit Reply" and editing the reply with tons of small changes, or attaching photos one by one after the fact? Your database log seems to verify that he did indeed create 12 system touches, so the answer has to lie in that 90 second stretch. That's the only logical way I could imagine it happening - perhaps Uncle Greg could shed some light on how he's using the software to reply. What a head scratcher...

Edit: 21:06 to 22:34 - this is roughly 90 minutes not 90 seconds. My bad, but still an active poster.

Sorry, I don't think thats easy at all. Coordinating multiple users through many multiple reiterations of user 1 now post, user 2 did you get an alert? .... over and over again. Unless there's a far easier testing methodology that I'm missing?

I searched on "Alert" in our ACP and it narrowed down the list of add-ons with configurable options that might be involved really fast. Might help you cut through the chase.

Good idea. This is what I have, although I don't think any other them could be causing this issue?

My best guess would be to disable the add-on Expiring User Upgrades first to see if it makes a difference for our favorite uncle. It probably won't but you never know.

It's a long shot but just a week ago it appears you and Daniel were discussing a bug here, so it's nothing more than a gut feeling FWIW.
