XF 2.3 User upgrades with no payment profile?

Our forum runs on donations, and I have a PayPal Me link setup in a sidebar widget for our members to use to donate.

We don't have a business PayPal account to upgrade to, so I can't enable the PayPal payment profile to setup the user upgrades that way, and all I really want to do is take advantage of the upgrade to automatically expire their group membership after a year (I have created a separate Supporters user group). Given our forum is pretty quiet, manually upgrading a user is perfectly ok.

Is there any way to take advantage of the built in user upgrade process without having a payment profile setup? I can't even edit the existing ones to suit without providing a payment profile.

Did you tried to create a Stripe account?

Not at all, using an actual payment provider doesn't really work for what we need. Setting up a Stripe account requires a bunch of info that just isn't really relevant for this forum, we're a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts and there's no business etc. associated with it.

PayPal (Legacy) does not work with your current PP account?
Anyway it's just to unlock the ugrade system right?

Ah I didn't even look at the legacy one! I noted it was deprecated so didn't even try it, but that might be worth a shot.

And yep, this is simply so I can do manual upgrades when people donate, and use the timer to remove the upgrade after a year to encourage them to donate again.

The risk, as it is deprecated, is that it could be removed in a future XF update...

Yeah definitely, might get us being able to use the upgrades for now at least, and if I can convince the guy looking after the PayPal account to upgrade to a business plan then we can use that instead and be future proof.
