Upgrading VB4

I am going to come over to Xenforo. I have been considering it for a couple of years, but the time has come...
I will be buying two licenses eventually, but will start with one to get the feel of things. I want to install it initially on a test site and go through the upgrade on that site. It is an inactive installation of VB4. I don't expect that is a problem, do I need to clear the test installation during the purchase? or do I just purchase it, do the test and then install it where I want it?
