Upgrading Centos 7? or waiting?

cPanel is recommending the following:

For customers currently running CentOS 7 or CloudLinux 7, we recommend upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, AlmaLinux 8, or CloudLinux 8.

I've been running Centos for years on a dedicated server with 3 forums and several WordPress installations.

I'm also aware that Centos 7 has a year or so to go before it stops receiving support so I admit I'm a little "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"..

My questions, for those of you running Centos 7,
  1. Have you already upgraded to Ubuntu or do you have plans in the near future?
  2. How much of a learning curve is there from Centos 7 to Ubunto 20? For example, does it change any of the commands in the cPanel Terminal app?
  3. For those not upgrading in the near future, do you plan to wait until Centos reaches final EOL with no support? If so why?

so I'm not installing/updating it for any of my clients yet.
With it being a closed BETA, I wouldn't use it on a client. There should be a clean upgrade path when it becomes available to the general public though. CentOS 7 still has around a little over a year of life left so there isn't really a major reason to move off of it for at least another 6 months.

Debating this topic now.

I ran the test script for the upgrade in cpanel and i have a lot of items that are not compatible.

I'm 50/50 just provisioning a new server from scratch and moving over to it instead of upgrading.
While AlmaLinux/Rocky Linux and cPanel have made great strides for EL7 to EL8 in place updating, it's still probably best to just setup a new EL8 server and migrate data.
I'm waiting for @eva2000 to give it the blessing for Centminmod. Until then, I ain't movin.
Still plenty of time on EL7 left. Though most my new Centmin Mod servers are running AlmaLinux 8 now - dogfooding it is a must :D
yeah, been toying with Cent for years but never jumped on it due to lack of time/knowledge/ability to devote the effort to learning it.
There's always 2023 or 2024 or 2025 :D
To AlmaLinux? The closed BETA has been working well for me so far. I'm sure you will see a general release before CentOS goes unsupported.
That's the plan to have EL8 sorted out before CentOS 7 EOL. Just more stuff to work on in Centmin Mod beta for EL8.
Right now, ES and I are battling on install. Follow the ES instructions and ES always fails to start with no real clear error WHY it failed to start.
If the issue is Centmin Mod EL8 specific, be sure to chime in on private EL8 beta forum too https://community.centminmod.com/forums/almalinux-8-rocky-linux-8-beta-testing.64/ ;)
Yeah, I know. I do have access to it. But according to @eva2000 its not exactly ready for primetime, so I'm not installing/updating it for any of my clients yet.
Yeah close but not there yet in terms of my own testing.
I'm running the CMM beta for months now on my big board without any issue.

Safe to say it's completely stable for 99.5% of users.
Great to hear :)

Yeah working on that part with a new centmin.sh menu option 21 to allow easier data migration between Centmin Mod servers https://community.centminmod.com/th...ion-21-submenu-routine-in-130-00beta01.23773/ ;) This is what closed Beta folks will be getting to play with soon. ChatGPT assisted documentation for what's planned https://github.com/centminmod/centm...1/datamanagement/centmin.sh-menu-21.readme.md :D
I'm running the CMM beta on all my production forums now.. no issues so far. Thanks for all the hard work @eva2000 !
Cheers mate :)

@eva2000 is there a beta upgrade path for centmin? If so, point me in the direction, as I have a small server with site that I can use to upgrade for testing.
Probably better asked on Centmin Mod forums but do you mean Centmin Mod stable to latest 130.00beta01 beta upgrade path? If so that is outlined at https://community.centminmod.com/threads/centmin-mod-124-00stable-130-00beta01-releases.22673/. But public 130.00beta01 beta is only for CentOS 7.x. There is a separate 130.00beta01 private beta installer which enables EL8 AlmaLinux/Rocky Linux 8 testing for invited Centmin Mod forum members at https://community.centminmod.com/forums/almalinux-8-rocky-linux-8-beta-testing.64/
