XF 1.0 Upgrade to a new directory

Hi. I have a couple questions

When I installed Xenforo for my community, I installed it to the root directory. It's still running 1.0.4.

I want to upgrade it to 1.3.2 and also moving it to a new directory, /forum/ to be specific.

In this case, do I download the full software and upload it to it's new directory?
If I install the full software, will it be able to detect and preserve existing threads/users?

I would do the two things separately so you aren't troubleshooting all at once.

I would do the upgrade to the existing root directory, then when the dust has settled a bit later do the move and redirects.
