XF 2.2 Unexpected database error

One of my forums won't load. It just says unexpected database error, please try later. As I can't load it to get into the admin panel - any suggestions? The server is the same server as my other forum and that's working fine.

In ACP there's nothing - except it says 2.3.0 is available. Is there anything I need to do before installing it?

When this happens you might be able to see an error message by viewing the page source, or failing that in the error log of your host or server.

Yes, make sure the theme and add-ons you use have been updated for compatibility.

Thanks. Yes it looked a bit odd until I upgraded the Pixel exit theme but seems to be ok.

I can see a few things have changed but not quite sure how much is XF and how much is the style update! I can see I have "trending content" heading instead of "latest posts". Also the Whats new page isn't full width any more and has an ad in the sidebar (previously only the main forum list had the ad in the sidebar. Do others have that too?

Anything else I should look out for?

Not particularly. Some widget placements have been added but I don't think previous ones should have changed. You can see an overview of features/changes here:

When you say widget placements have been added, assume that's what I'm seeing. The What's New page is no longer full width but has a sidebar like the forum page. Assume I can change that back again somehow?

You can add/remove/change any widget placements as desired just as in 2.2, via the control panel under Appearance > Widgets.

We have also been experiencing this error for a few days now.

The ACP only displays the following error messages:






The first message regarding the three files results from a manual security patch change.

Could there be a connection?

The error occurs several times a day. It only lasts a short time, then the page runs again.

My forum had the same experience last Thursday late in the evening.
In the ACP nothing was recorded and on my server no server faults were recorded.
The unexpected database error lasted about 5 minutes, then my forum went back online.

Does the time of your outage correspond to an action by one of the cron entries?

It's just happened to me again out of the blue. On all three forums. Righted itself after a few minutes.

It's a server issue.
