Try out the XenForo 2.3.8 Preview!

Just to jinx myself.. Here's hoping 2.3.8 prod isn't released on Friday :D

Too many folks immediately install before checking to see if their base styles have been updated for it leaving their forums borked for the weekend..

(Yes, we've updated the themes for 2.3.8 preview in dev, but we want to wait for the prod release + XFRM/XFMG so we don't end up having to do a second build release of all our styles)

Big advantage for those that stick to the default theme (which I did for exactly the reason to avoid potential trouble when upgrading XF) ;)

Aiming for today which is still a little close to the sun for our liking but there's nothing like a bit of excitement to get us through January :)

There are some small new features in the 2.3.8 code, but nothing crazy. It's really not a feature release. Anything where the last number changes is generally just a bug fix/maintenance release.

The add-ons didn't warrant a preview release because, well, to be honest, we hadn't actually made any changes yet prior to the preview release of XF last week, so there was really nothing to test or preview.

Any changes in the add-ons for 2.3.8 will just be minor bug fixes.
That's understandable, thanks for the information!

As for the XenForo Core and Resource Manager, I wanted to suggest two features for a future release:
  1. Drag & drop for multiple files (Link available): Uploading multiple attachments requires clicking the button repeatedly. Drag & drop support (like Editor has) would make it much easier for creators.

  2. Video lightbox support (Link available): Video attachments can open in a lightbox as they do in Media Gallery. But only images are available for the lightbox instead of video in the Resource Manager. I have created my two add-ons for both XenForo core and Resource Manager supported included with JS template
My two addons available are for XenForo Core and Resource Manager. Would love to see if you could implement both of these for the future

I know these aren't available for XenForo 2.3.8 core and Resource Manager yet, just thought I would like to mention them because we are on the topic of RM suggestions and improvements for the future

@Chris D
Am I correct that
  1. There is a new option Create retina thumbnails (attachmentThumbnailRetina) to create 2x thumbnails which is enabled by default
  2. (Template) code that displays attachments might need adjustment
  3. Code that generates thumbnails needs adjustments as generateAttachmentThumbnail() is now deprecated
  4. This builds the foundation to (finally!) allow responsive attachments in a future version
  5. It is necessary to rebuild attachment thumbnails to take advantage of this feature for existing thumbnails
?
That all seems correct.

I ran it and it says no upgrade available - to do a fresh install click here. Underneath is a button saying "Rebuild Master Data"
