Tip Tap Editor for Xenforo 1.4.38

No permission to download
Is this intended as a standalone TipTap editor implementation for XF 2.3, or is it trying to reproduce/backport the TipTap editor XenForo has shown for 2.4? I'm curious because XenForo's implementation seems to involve quite a bit beyond TipTap itself, especially around BBCode conversion, custom BBCode, editor-button extensions, uploads and round-trip compatibility.

I'm just doing this because 2.4 is taking a while. It's just based on the editor with extras added in.

Yeah, I get the reason for making it, especially with how long 2.4 has been taking.

My concern is more about the integration approach than TipTap itself. Looking through 1.3.7, quite a bit of XF compatibility seems to be recreated by replacing/intercepting existing editor behaviour and XF editor APIs, while the toolbar and TipTap schema are largely handled independently.

That seems like it could get difficult once you get into things such as custom BBCode/editor buttons, attachment insertion, third-party add-ons calling XF editor APIs, BBCode mode detection, and opening/resaving older posts without normalizing or losing unsupported markup.

Have you built any kind of round-trip/regression test suite around those cases yet?

I also think the release history makes this harder to evaluate from an admin perspective. There have been a lot of versions in a very short period, while several of the public update notes were initially just things like "Bug fixes" or "More bug fixes". For something replacing such a central part of XF, I'd personally want fairly detailed changelogs, known limitations, and upgrade notes so I know exactly what changed before putting an update on a production forum.

Some of the fixes listed in 1.3.7 also seem fairly fundamental, like routing/controller issues, asset paths, and compatibility fixes. That makes me wonder how much of the editor has been tested across clean installs, upgrades, different server setups, and real-world XF configurations before each release.

I think that's the part I'd want to see proven before considering it a drop-in replacement for Froala. TipTap itself is probably the easier part compared to preserving all of XenForo's existing editor semantics and compatibility.

couple of font colour issues with the dark mode menu... including the light mode button :)

Given the frequent updates, I think this should be marked as Alpha or Beta.

But it’s a nice idea and could be useful once it’s stable.

In all fairness, this add on is free and released with the best intentions. But I think it’s a bit rushed without proper testing. Still don’t be discouraged of learning and improving.

just noticed that replying to a post quotes the post but doesn't include any link to the original post/poster
