I spotted this in the aMember software, seems like a great idea.

Time and criteria based automated sending of emails and/or conversations to members.

For example

immediately after registering they get an email saying introduce yourself
3 days after registering, an email encouraging them to try a particular sub forum
5 days after registering, an email suggesting they sign up for premium membership

The flexibility and potential to encourage user engagement is great for any forum!

Even at its most basic (new email/convo immediately after registration) it's clearly a popular feature as there have been quite a few add-ons that provide this functionality and they seem to be popular. It certainly seems like something that would be a popular feature.

As someone who runs a board that predominantly sells and supports a product, I can certainly see this being useful for me. For many others, people who want to make their boards more user friendly and inviting, it seems like it would be useful.

There isn't a publicly available one for XenForo at this moment in time.

I think you've missed the point Andy. Criteria based-email sending is a very powerful marketing tool.

It is. I'm really surprised this feature does not exist yet either as a built-in tool or as a plugin.

There are some services out there which provide this type of service (would require a XenForo addon to provide integration though).

Customer.io is one example

Mandrill talked about it on their blog a while back - http://blog.mandrill.com/handling-advanced-customer-behavior-triggers-with-customer-io.html

Obviously it is an additional cost (and probably prohibitively expensive for most forums) - but it might suit some sites.
