MG 1.1 "This video is not encoded in a supported format and cannot be transcoded"

So I uploaded a few .avi and .wmv to the gallery at xenforo.com, to test transcoding results. But I keep getting the error "This video is not encoded in a supported format and cannot be transcoded".

Upload and progress bar seem normal but at the end (100%) I get the error.

For the .avi rendering (Sony Vegas) i tried two codecs (Sony YUV and Lagarith) but also uncompressed.

What should I try next?

We don't have FFmpeg features enabled here so it won't work.
