No, you need to learn something else, dont use beta version on live site, dont change original files and code with your own, and i presume you have 16 years old

No, he was correct on his learning experience. If he had of had a valid backup then the issue would have been moot. He would either be able to restore to the XF 1.x site OR retry his import/upgrade.
Be SURE that your backups consist not only of the DB, but the file structure also if you are using any add-ons other than 1st party.
And also, friends don't left friends use phpMyAdmin to perform backups. It's very unreliable.
