[TH] Giphy [Deleted]

Sorry about that, we really don't have a great way to update this internally, something we can work on. For now, happy to either refund or I expect we'll have this upgraded before the end of the year.
I'm fine. I can stick it out for the $10. If it were my real shopping cart, I'd just ask for the licenses to be extended. But I'm still a satisfied customer of TH, so I'll wait this one out. 😁
Yep, you're right. We must've missed that when 2.1 was announced. We're updating them now!
👍

ThemeHouse updated [TH] Giphy with a new update entry:

Version 2.0.2 released

Bugs Fixed:
  • Giphy icon would show if API key hasn't been set, resulting in errors being displayed to the user
Enhancements:
  • XenForo 2.1 support
  • Option to insert gif using [img] tag instead of embedding XenForo's media BB Code

Notes: If you are running XenForo 2.1 and the editor button does not show up please review our FAQ

Read the rest of this update entry...

Can confirm it works as supposed to on 2.1 Beta 5. Thanks! 😁👍

Quick question and two suggestions:

What's the difference between it being in the img tag vs media? I noticed that the media tag has an overlay that links into the Giphy website while the img tag doesn't. Is either or a violation of Giphy's ToS as Facebook will link to the site in their own manner when the image is clicked in a post?

First and foremost, the most important with data being so expensive here, reduce mobile data usage by allowing to turn off auto-play (or detecting mobile and turning it off by default) to where a user would see a "play" button over the 1st frame, wherein if they clicked the picture, it'd play the entire GIF.

Secondly, if anyone else would like to see it besides me, are content ratings on specific forum nodes. I don't know exactly what types of images are in R, but it'd be easily moderated nudity is posted somewhere it doesn't belong. It'd be nice to, for instance, set R in the NSFW humor forum and PG/PG-13 across the board to reduce moderation as some would rather not see R, while some don't mind.

Patiently waiting for others. :)

hi @ThemeHouse

this might be a question outside of the scope of this particular addon, but i thought i'd ask regardless - are you planning on adding support (or creating a separate addon, i suppose) for Tenor as well?

the img tag just directly imbeds the gif into the post, the media option adds the full embed with their overlay and such.

I've not seen anything that would indicate it is

This wouldn't be possible with the img tag as it is just XenForo's default BB Code. Even if we made a custom BB Code for it, I'm not sure how viable it would be to just display the first frame anyways as the image is remotely embedded, so it'd likely need a way to create a still from the first frame to prevent the browser from downloading the full gif in the first place. The media tag we have even less control over as it's just an iframe for Giphy's embed option.

Sort of going along with the first option, there wouldn't be a way to prevent R rated GIFs from displaying in certain nodes entirely as you can just click "Insert media" and link directly to the page on Giphy and XenForo will have no idea the rating of it. The hard limit on this would just be filtering out certain GIF ratings on the editor modal and preventing them from being inserted using our system.

This is definitely something we can look into. If we did this rather than making it a separate add-on we'd probably rebrand the current Giphy add-on so parts (mainly the editor modal) can be reused

it would be fine either way for me :) it would just be cool to also have support for Tenor since they're "the other one" when it comes to gifs

thanks! :)

Facebook is able to achieve this on mobile via (PC) Settings->Videos->Auto-Play Videos->"OFF", but it applies it to not only GIFs with Tenor/GIPHY, but videos as well. It might be something to contact Giphy about if they have an alternative method of embedding that allows for autoplay or maybe Facebook achieved this on their own, I don't know.

A middle ground might be to globally disable Giphy/etc. embeds in user preferences and make a "Spoiler" type button to load it if the user chooses to.

Either way, no real complaints for the price. I would pay more for Tenor support and a preference to disable them to save data (and because some just don't like GIFs), though.

I upgraded from xF2.0 to 2.1 and already had Giphy installed. I don't have a Giphy Icon in the editor.
I read the FAQ's and I don't understand what is suppose to be done withInserting the button manually "you'll need to do it manually in Content -> BB Code Button Manage" How do we do this?

I installed Editor & BB code options and it works but now images in my signatures were removed. Did BB coded in signatures get over written, when I disable Editor & BB code options, signatures back to normal but Giphy icon gone

Are you still experiencing this issue or have you resolved it? If not go ahead and start a ticket on our support portal so we can take a closer look! :)

@Dalton Prock, I just submitted a trouble ticket at Theme House
@Dalton Prock what is the response time on trouble tickets? I havent had a response yet.
As PumpinIron said, ticket responses may be delayed between said dates mentioned above but I went ahead and started a private conversation with you too see if I might be able to help you further until said developer that has been assigned to your ticket returns ;)
