Not planned Suggestion: Quick register feature

I just saw a forum, based on vB 4.x, that has a "really fast registration" feature. You type a user name, an e-mail address, and click Register. A pop-up box then tells you that the password will be e-mail to you and that you will not be able to log in if the email address is fake or incorrect.

That seems awesome to me. Can xen do that?

Is the password sent in plain text in the email?
If so, that is a very bad idea.

Hmm i can't think of many people if any that would want someone else or something else to pick/generate their password for them. Plus i believe this would be poor security if its emailed in text..

Username, email vs username, email, password? Doesn't seem to be a huge difference. Especially since I would want to change my password from the randomly generated one anyways.

Password is sent in plain text via email (no good!). And once again it asks you to update your password.
So it sends you a password that it generates which you eventually have to go in and update.. Isn't that more work? Why not just create your password from the get go and eliminate the updating part...?

I like the idea of removing the Gender and Birth Date questions during registration as it makes registration easier. I have two add-on which do this:

Can i choose in options if i only want to remove the gender question in the regform or does it standard remove this in all the templates?

Thanks Andy. Just want the gender not on registration so this addon is not for me.
