Hi All,

I am lookingat putting together a site basically a gaming listing site.. Could you please tell me if thius can be done and or is adviable, Thanks.

Sub Domains for "Special Members"

So basically MyGamingDirectory.com <--0 That beingin fiull controll of me / admins/ mods etc etc

Then if i wanted a Miderator or a paid member to have extra permissions to add theitr site / forum under a different structure like:

CallOfDuty9.MyGamingDirectory.com

So strucures like this:

Main Site: MyGamingDirectory.com
Sub: CallOfDuty9.MyGamingDirectory.com <--- That / Those being for paid members / Admin & Moderator who wish to work on those "Sub-Game" Sites / Forums..

Is this posibke to setup so as the guest / member siugns up that they can chose thbeir own Sub-Domain and setup their own Forums ?

Kind Regards,

Darren Paul

Functionality for users creating their own forum would have to be custom made. You can manually create the forum for them upon request.

You can control who has access to each forum with user group permissions.

To my knowledge, there's no way to route a forum at a the sub domain level. That would also have to be custom made.

If you're talking about an entirely new full forum on the subdomain,

example:

and

are both hosted by IGN Entertainment....

IF you're looking to do something like this, then you'll need a xenforo license for EACH forum you plan on hosting......

Just to iterate, if you're looking to set up something like a forum host (ex: https://jcink.com/)

you'll need a TON of XF licenses to accomplish this as well as a custom developed system to get it to all work together as @Matt C. has mentioned.

Unless i'm misunderstanding what you're asking?

That's what I was about to say. It would quickly become unaffordable and the administration would be a total nightmare, too. Much better to have something like I've got with dedicated user sections. In my case, it's for member videos and I've got several small YouTube content creators there, but this can be done for any subject. I think it's possible to create custom themes for each area, too.

Unfortunately XenForo doesn't have multisite functionality. But it is possible to connect 2 sites through 0Auth. This means that your members can login to the 2nd site.

No synchronisation of users exists, so after login there will not be any VIP user group applied.

But that can be custom built by a competent developer. I think such an addon would be popular.

You can install Social Groups on the 2nd XenForo site and only allow your VIP members to create groups. @DragonByte Tech Social Groups for example.

Licensing issues aside, this sounds like you want a logistical nightmare. Even if Xenforo handled it out of the box, you'd still have to either manually manage DNS for each sub-domain, or write software to accesses your DNS provider's API (and few provide an API). The web server software would need sub-domains created, SSL deployed for each, and a graceful restart when created. And so on, including proper backups.

Ultimately, based on what I've seen the last 30 years when people attempted to do something like this... users will lose interest in it a few months later, if they adopt it at all. You're going to put in a lot of time and effort for little reward. The honest truth is most users who say they want a feature never end up using it - because they are there for the common community.

PS - domain names are all lowercase.
