Style variation logo not working + variation selector not showing

Prepping our forum for an upgrade to 2.3 on a local server copy...

I use a theme that is a child of Default.
Default theme is active, variations are active.
I turn on variations for my theme, and:

Logo disappears even tho it's defined for both variations:



The IMG URL for logo in page source is: src="/forum/var(--xf-publicLogoUrl)"

Also, the variation selector doesn't appear even though it's enabled:



This works fine in the parent Default theme, however!

Thanks for any fix or guidance you can provide. Great work on 2.3, BTW!!!

May not be the issue but for a start I think you need a slash / before styles. Without the slash it will be looking for styles as a sub directory of forum

Just to be double sure try the full URL

If the alternative is the same probably not necessary

Nope, that didn't fix it. Shouldn't be necessary since the path is relative to the forum install dir, which in my case is: blah.com/forum/

Yes but when you are looking at the forum list it will be forum/forum/

Steps to reproduce:

Where there is parent style (default) and a child style and both have variations and both styles are available for user selection

• User chooses the parent style
• Subsequently admin then makes child the default and disables the parent for user selection
• User's style automatically switches to the child (as expected - the only available style)

Result: user sees child style but without any variation selection available.

If you re-enable parent for users and they then choose child, then you disable parent it all seems to work

The merging of templates on upgrade didn't seem to work right, so my child theme was missing updated code in PAGE_CONTAINER.
Both problems fixed now!!

Upgrading from 2.2 to 2.3 can mean some big template changes. I found I couldn't rely on the automatic template rebuilding also.

Even so, not having the slash before styles may cause issues due to the forum and/or thread routes. I just founds a whoe load of 404s due to exactly that, and didn't notice for a while as the logo was cached.
