RM 2.1 Sorting by a user-defined date

Situation: I need to upload documents in resources, said documents having been published on different dates (somewhere else). These documents should be sorted according to their publication date within resources. However, said publication dates do not correspond to the upload dates, i.e. there may appear documents which already have been published a long time ago (somewhere else) and which will be uploaded later to the resources.

Question: Is there a way to have a default sorting by the publication date of the documents, even if the publication date of the document does not correspond to the upload date in resources?
